Ditto. I've been out of work since October, except for a Christmas job at the mall, and I can't find anything!!

I have my own business with a close friend/partner and it's been quiet since we started the whole thing. I decided to get a job last year before the business really got off and everything so I applied at "Zellers" and got the job. I started working there in August and had to quit in October to start doing courses for our business.

I was told that if we can't proceed with our business and/or it just doesn't work out that I could come back to "Zellers". I would only work there until I can get something much better.

Last weekend, I dropped by "Zellers" to once again speak to the director and he told me I can still come back but now I have to wait till at least March or after because right now it's quiet and there are even some people that are not working the hours that they should.

We will be finding out real soon if we can proceed with the business or not.
If not, I will go back to "Zellers" unless I find something better. I want an office job but have two big weaknesses that keep me from going for one and/or keeping a job for a real long time.

I've been struggling with jobs since 1987-1988 more or less. I have my high school diploma and a secretarial studies one but still; have a hard time.
I'm thinking about going back to school and get a college degree in something but I'm not sure if that's right for me and also the money I have to pay for it and everything. I will be 36 next month and still have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life.

I get so discouraged and frustrated and it's putting a strain on my relationship with my boyfriend with whom I've been with for almost 10 years.
I want things to change for the better and to get out of this rut.

I know exactly how you feel. I went thru the same crap. I am so glad I finally got a job. It's just part time, but damn, who cares at this point?!

I wonder where they get off saying that unemployment is so low here. So many people want to work and have the skills and no one will even look at them.

I know how you feel. I've been looking for a job since the end of november. I applied for at least 20 jobs and I've only heard back for interviews from like 3 or 4. I have another interview this Tuesday. I find out at the end of this month if I get a job working for the Brewers at Miller Park. I really hope I get that one.

80's Fan - I know Zeller's is a drugstore, I was a claims processor for drug prescription claims in North America. I was - I've been working at low-wage jobs on and off since. I might have to get a job at Walgreens - the pharmacy America trusts! - as a cashier or stock clerk!

I feel your pain, brotha. It might be easier to get a job if I didn't have such a crazy ass schedule this semester. Tues, Thurs, and Fridays I'm avaiable anytime after 12:30, but on Mondays and Wednesdays, I have classes from 4 - 7. I don't have anything else on Wednesdays, but Mondays I have a class from 9 - 10. And no one wants to hire me because I can't come in 5 days a week at the same time, even for part time. So I'm about ready to jump off of that cliff with you.

Both of my parents have been in this situation in the last few years. They're both jobhunting again because they hate their current jobs. Whateevver.

I'm have a job reserved for later this year at a pizzeria. (I'm taking my sister's job after she goes to college...) Good luck finding something guys. :)

I graduated in December. It's now February, and my parents are giving me some not-so-subtle reminders that I am no longer covered on their health insurance  I've filled out at least seven applications and I've already gone through an interview. But I want to find a career and my parents want me to make money and move out. Grrr.

I went through the same thing in 98. Feeling pressure to move out. Tell your parents you have to find a job first and then worry about an apt. It's a shame they can't be more supportive

At least our English and Canadian friends have health insurance. There's only one country in the world that doesn't offer public medical insurance, Liza, and we're living in it! I got mine in early October, then lost it in mid-October when my boss fired me for misunderstanding how to work a postage meter machine! :(

Thank God my parents actually like having me here. Cuz my salary doesn't even pay off my credit cards and student loans.

And health insurance...I hate mine! I wish I was back on my parent's plan.

He fired you for that?! Didn't he even consider that perhaps he might have to teach you a little? Sheesh. Not everyone grasps these moronic office machines right away. I still have trouble with fax machines.

I feel everyone's pain, as my sister and a really good friend are going through the exact same thing.

I can list some helpful suggestions if it helps with ideas and such. :)

Have you all tried www.monster.com ? They are supposed to help with job listings, and I believe they can also accept attached email résumés.

If you are a college/uni student and get financial aid, you are eligible for a workstudy position which really helps with on-the-job training and experience.

Ask your teachers, co-workers, etc, if they know of anyone in your special field (i.e. graphic designer, accounting, etc) if they are occupying anyone in your field. Then, put together a portfolio package of what you have done.

Hope this helps somewhat and good luck!

Wow, now I don't feel so bad. I've been jobless since May 2003. I've been applying to some places this month. It was kind of cold weather in January here so I didn't go job hunting too much. My dad has been getting on my case lately. I've been applying to places recently, though. The only job interview I had was sometime in November 2003. That was at the Second Cup. When they asked if I liked coffee I honestly answered that I hated the after-taste of coffee. Needless to say, I didn't get a call back from them after that. So, I never got a job there. Anyway, yeah, still applying. I hope I'll find something soon. Any job would be better than no job at all.

I know what all of you who are looking for a job are going thru. It is tough and depressing, trying to sell yourself to companies. I was out of a job for a few years. I've been at my current job for over a year. I finally get a vacation! I work for a company called Isagenix. Not the best company to work for but it's a job. They are cutting our hours. The management guys are jerks. But it pays the bills. Hey guys, good luck!

That's a crappy reason not to hire someone. Since when is "You MUST like our product to work here" a requirement??
