View Full Version : Niles spin-off, spinoffs?
Hey, does anyone think that when the show is OVER, that any characters should get a spin-off, i keep thinking there should be a Niles spin-off. About him and his life and being a psychatrist. But i first thought this before he finally hooked up with daphne, so now that means she would be on the spinoff as well, and I dont think the show would be so good that way.
And if anyone else should get a spinoff it should be Roz. But i dont really see her or anyone else capable of holding there own show, only Niles, dont know. What do you think?

nicola_uk_1974 08-30-2001, 11:43 PM I actually think that the characters work best as a team.
Sure, I love Niles like the rest of us. But I think his scenes with the other characters truly bring out his best moments.
I'd just like to see them all stay in Frasier for as long as the show continues to be fresh (which I'm sure will be ages yet!).

moofomoo 08-31-2001, 12:05 AM Considering Frasier itself is a spin-off, I wouldn't see anything with another character making another spin-off last so long. Even with Niles...and I adore him! But true, the best scenes are when the characters work as a team, and to split them up would be wrong.
I *do* think an interesting spin-off would be with a character no one has ever seen. I see the next spinoff being... "Maris" *dies laughing* well, it was just a thought.

Central Perk 01-12-2002, 10:54 AM A good spinoff would be about Maris. No One has ever really seen her so there are loads of stories that writers could come up with. She doesn't even have to be the star just a supporting actress.
Tiger32 01-18-2002, 08:39 PM I think it would be difficult for anyone to have a successful spinoff based on their original characters. However, I can see Niles and Daphne getting married and moving away from Seattle, but they would need some awfully good writers to make the series work. If they can use the writers from Fraiser to create the spinoff, than it has a chance of succeeding. But I am sure that David Hyde Pierce probably wants to explore other roles besides Niles Crane, which he has played for the past 9 seasons. Another possibility is Roz, she has a lot of fire and passion, and probably would be successful in a series of her own. Again the writing would still have to be spectacular for her to succeed.

DHP has done other things besides just being Niles Crane, younger brother to Frasier and adoring new love of Daphne's life. He did a play in LA at one point, if memory serves...and of course he was in Osmosis Jones and A Bugs Life. There are always other things for him to do...but I still stand that Niles couldn't carry a whole show on just his character alone...
Oh, and I was KIDDING about making a show of Maris. That probably wouldn't last either.
**moo, still fond of Niles after all these years**
Central Perk 01-23-2002, 04:43 PM Its sorry to say but i don't think frasier will generate any spin-offs let alone sucessful ones
Tiger32 01-23-2002, 06:34 PM Moofomoo, you are correct about David Hyde Pierce, he has done other things besides Frasier, I did not mean to imply that he has only played the role of Niles, but sometimes an actor gets tired of one character that they have played for a long period of time. But this emmy winning actor is great as Niles Crane, I think his interaction with Kelsey Grammer is priceless. It is the closest thing I have seen to the Tony Randall\ Jack Klugman interaction in the series "The Odd Couple". The big difference is that both Niles and Frasier are both snobs. But it is a good thing that they have Daphne, Roz and Martin to keep them in place. This has to be one of the greatest cast ever assembled, they work very well with one another, and there timing is perfect. I was watching the cast on the Oprah Winfrey show sometime late last year, and Kelsey admitted that he never studies his lines, because he wants his reactions to be as spontanious as possible. Whatever he is doing is working, because he has won 2 emmys for his role as Frasier Crane, and probably will win others before he puts this series to rest.
Brian Damage 02-03-2002, 04:55 PM I think of the current cast, Roz has the best chance of getting a spinoff. However, people might not want to see her interacting with other people other than the cast of Frasier. Spinoffs I think work better when you take a character that is not a main player but a bit part. For instance, Bulldog or Frasier's loudmouth girlfriend(played by Jean Smart) I forget the character's name. I was thinking of Simon Moon( Daphne's drunk brother) They already set it up ( with Simon headed to L.A. looking for new adventures) That might work with the right cast around him. What do you think?
