Well, Paramount has announced release dates for some of their shows, but Family Ties isn't one of them. I believe TVShowsOnDvd.com said that FT might be "up in the air" at the moment. Hopefully Paramount is still planning on releasing it and they just haven't chosen a release date yet...

hmmm.... I heard it might be released in the first half of this year but so far, nothing seems to be happening. I hope it does come out sometime this year :(

it's not fair. FT is a Emmy award winning show and is not on DVD whereas a show like Who's the Boss IS on DVD!!! Don't get me wrong, I like Who's the boss, but FT should have been released on DVD a long time ago, with bonus features. I'm sure it would be a success.

YOUR KIDDING!! WHO'S THE BOSS IS ON DVD AND FAMILY TIES ISN'T!! :angryfire :faint: I do like who's the boss, but it's no Family Ties. Family Ties with the unedited episodes and special features would be a bestseller with fans. :)

Until then I have some great bloopers and behind the scenes stuff on FT. When Fox announced his PD, Time and Again ran a whole hour with a bunch of clips. They did a five-minute thing on the making of an FT episode, and a blooper reel. Like when Ellen's dad throw's MJF a football he hit Fox in the head with it; Lauren's chimp went to slap MJF; MJF couldn't get through a line because Skippy's turtle was upstaging him in the corner of the shot.

Alex is telling Skippy that he'll find a special girl one day who'll care about him. MJF is trying to be heartfelt, but in the corner of the screen you see Skippy's baby turtle trying to paw it's way up the glass of its aquarium. MJF was sitting right next to it, and he looks out of the corner of his eye and tries to stifle a laugh, but then breaks down and starts pounding on the table holding the aquarium :).

aH! I just can't wait much longer! They have to get it out on dVD soon with all those special features ya'll were talking about. It would be so great! :D

There is no release date. Even worse, one of the guys from TVShowsOnDVD.com have just recently said on a message board that Family Ties on DVD is being downgraded to "rumor" status. They were almost positive it was coming last year, but now not so sure. We'll see...

I guess I'd be 95 or 96, so I could still be alive. I can imagine myself as an old lady sitting in front of the TV 24 hours a day watching episodes of Family Ties and going, "I remember when I loved watching this show when I was 15!"

Anyway, everyone sign! There are probably more who want it out on DVD but aren't involved in the FT online community in any way.

^ I don't think you'd be able to vote twice unless you had a different email address you could use.

Possible reasons why there are so few signatures as of yet:

1: Far fewer people want Family Ties to be released on DVD than was previously thought.

2: People do want Family Ties on DVD, but have a phobia of petitons.

3: The people that have signed (myself included) are the only people who come to this site regularly, and so others who only pop in sporadically, may not have seen the petition.

4: It is dangerous for the people who come here to give their email address, because they are being hunted by governments of several different countries, for various wrongdoings.

The thing is, its not looking good for family ties at the moment. Its been downgraded to rumour status and it looks like no ones doing anything about it. :( Maybe if everybody who wants fties to be released on dvd can put the website for the petition in your signature or something. That way, the petition isn't just confined to the fties forum. :)

03-22-2005, 07:28 PM
Progress is being made...slowly, but surely...

I'm going to take this petition down to Sesame Street, which is a place I frequent, and get Big Bird, Oscar, Ernie, Bert, Kermit, Elmo, Grover, the Count and everyone else to sign it...and maybe while I'm at it, I can start up a petition to get Sesame Street shown on British terrestrial television again. I miss that show...I watched it the last time I was in America - yes, I may be 16, but I still retain fond memories of Sesame Street! And, to relate it to Family Ties, I have heard "Sesame Street" mentioned in a couple of episodes of the show.

Do you want to put the link in your signature? :)

Hi Jen :)

Actually, the reason I didn't put the link in my signature was because I thought if too many people did it, then the "overexposure", so to speak, would turn people off, rather than encourage them to sign. I wasn't intending to add it, but I was thinking of putting the link into some of my signatures on other message boards that I frequent, which would grab attention from people who don't come to Sitcoms Online.

This has nothing to do with Family Ties, but Jen, may I ask why you changed the year to 1978? I'm not complaining...1978 is as good a year as any, and some great songs were released that year, and some great shows started...namely, Taxi - but I just am curious as to why.

Don't worry. All you have to do is get Alex to morph into his alter ego Marty McFly. Marty can take you to see his best friend Doc Brown. Doc can then take you to 2085 in his DeLorean time machine, and you'll be able to watch all the episodes you want. :)

102 signatures is great.
I hope it does come out on dvd this year.

I can't believe it's been 16 years ago today, (May 14, 1989) Family Ties aired for the last time. It's been almost 23 years since it debuted in Sept. 1982. Where have all the years gone? :)

Yeah and its been about 20 years this year since "Back to the Future" came out.

I wasn't alive then but still... :p

BTW 106 signatures.

I just looked and there are now 125.

Although, does anyone think that maybe we should subtract two votes? Because someone, I think maybe accidentally, has voted three times, so two of those votes don't really count, as it's the same person. So that would bring us down to 123 votes.

Yeah I used to watch it on TV1 in Australia at 6:00pm but then they changed it to 3:30pm and I don't get home until 4. :( I hope its released soon.

You could record it and then watch it when you get home. I wish there was a channel here that showed FT.

I missed my chance. I just saw an ad the other day and I checked the tv guide. They've actually taken Family Ties of TV1 for good. :(

The new episode of Entertainment Weekly (dated July 8, 2005 with Johnny Depp on the cover) has a little article on a possible DVD.

We're Dyin' For...'Family Ties'
The Gipper himself tuned in to the family-room staple of the Reagan '80s, but a DVD is still MIA. What gives? Snarkier than the Bradys but milder than the Bundys, the Keatons juggled politics and comedy as we lapped up the weekly war of words between flower-power parents Steven and Elyse and power-hungry son Alex (the role that made Michael J. Fox a star). And let's not forget sassy sisters Mallory and Jennifer; shark-jumping stunt, er, baby bro Andy; and nebbishy neighbor Skippy (Urkel who?). Fox is now far removed from his Teen Beat poster-boy days, but surely he has Family anecdotes to share. And since brother Jason has made the ultimate comeback, there's no better time for Justine Bateman to resurface and reunite with fellow where-are-they-nows Marc Price, Tina Yothers, and Scott "Yo, Mallory!" Valentine. "Although there is no release date confirmed," says Michael Arkin, senior VP of marketing at Paramount Home Entertainment, "we are looking into all possibilities and appreciate hearing from the fans about it." Calling all Republicans--and Democrats...
-AC

Next to it is a picture of Jennifer, Alex, Steven, and Mallory with a caption of, "We want a Family reunion!"

Maybe, in addition to the petition, this article will help finally get it to DVD.

OK, dumb question: can somebody tell me how I can find the list of most requested unreleased shows on the tvshowsodvd.com site?? I searched the site and cannot find it! (probably right under my nose)! So, Family Ties is #10? That's a good sign at least. I'd also like to find out rankings for Mr. Belvedere, Valerie/Hogan Family, Its Your Move, and the 80's version of Hitchcock Presents. Thanks!

The way that you see them is when you log in, it brings up statistics and it says news items added since last login and recent dvds people own and then at the bottom right hand corner, it says Most Requested Unreleased Shows Family Ties is #10. The way to find out what the ranks are for other shows is click on Tv Show Voting. I hope that helps.
