A story aired today on Lifetime of a man named Pat Brown, whose real name was Carl Broadnik. He was the man who ended up in Wyoming with amnesia. I won't go into the details of the story, but for those who saw it, does anyone know anything more about it? Most importantly, how did he end up in Wyoming? He lived in Indiana.

The update showed at the end how he found his family. He was also wanted for embezzlement from his company he worked for. You ask me I think the guy went on the lam for a while and secided to concoct an ellaborate hoax. Then he figured he would not be held accountable if he played dumb.

yes, I'm aware of all that. But what I want to know is how did he end up in Wyoming!

all con artists and crooks have plans. He probably used the money he embezled for a plane ticket and decided to start over. Then after a while he missed his family and made a plea to unsolved. He is a liar if I ever seen one.

Oh come on, not everyone is lying about amnesia.

That guy calling himself Tyler sure looked like he was faking it.

When they showed him watching his story and getting the call from his mother, all I could think was "act! act!".

Then how fake did he look at the airport when his mom was all emotional and hugging him?

Even my at the time 8 yr old said, "ooohh, what a faker!"

Now Gigi/Belinda Lynn, she didn't look like she was faking --a little self conscious and nervous in front of the camera, but not faking.

When the "Tyler" story was updated on NBC there was a very lengthy segment detailing how he was actually wanted for stealing a shipment of groceries. On the night the broadcast aired, he was taken into custody and returned to his home state (I forget where). The scene where he is reunited with his mother was actually taped outside the county jail after he was released. For some reason, the Lifetime reruns edited out all aspects of this side story. For many years, I was only familiar with the Lifetime version and had no clue that he was a fugitive. In retrospect, it makes sense and casts a lot of doubt on his amnesia claims.

He had to have had amnesia. He went on the run when he was indicted, right? So why would have willingly put himself on a TV show that works with law enforcement?

Like Tyler I believe that he ran away from his crime and faked his amnesia.

I can understand how people would think he faked his amnesia but why would he want his case aired on UM? Surely if he was faking he would have known his true identity would be figured out after being on national television. Plus he seemed to remember his children's name (they were in his dream apparently) which I found a bit strange. Not saying I believe 100% he really had amnesia but just thought I'd throw that question out there and see what people have to say.

This reminds me of another "amnesia" case where a guy was found out in the desert outside Vegas. They aired the segment and then an update where he meets his family. I think we later find out that he went to jail for stealing a freezer truck or something. What was his name? It's on the tip of my tongue but I can't remember...

Arthur Paul Beale, aka "Tyler".

Caught an episode of Justice Files yesterday that discussed this case, and they provided a little more interesting info than UM reported. After arriving in Cheyenne he stopped at a homeless shelter in Riverton where he filled out a registration form with his SSN, place of birth, number of kids and DOB. He even signed it under Carl Broadnik. When interviewed he was stunned speechless.

Yay, another JF fan!

I always thought this one was interesting because you get to see the man himself watch his own UM segment--RS being on a TV on a show you're watching on TV was kind of awesome.

To be honest, I always gave this guy the benefit of the doubt, and always thought that the circumstances of him being found in Wyoming were a little extreme to be fake, but if what you're saying is true, it's pretty damning and definitely makes him a liar after all.

Right. It does surprise me that UM never came across the registration form themselves researching the story or never thought to consider looking into it. A homeless shelter is going to be the first stop for someone in his condition. He was kinda 'deer in headlights' a bit when they confronted him with it, but it is possible that he had a moment of clarity and wrote it all down without thinking twice about it. Considering his reaction though, and considering the crime he committed and fled over, I think he knew all along.

I think the idea with these cases is that the faker wants to go home, but has to do it while maintaining the integrity of their amnesia story. They probably believe they won't be punished after they're ID'd.

The whole time I was watching "Pat" I kept imagining him thinking to himself, "What do I have to do to get recognized already!? Sick of living in Jackson Hole, WY!"

Funny how most of these 'amnesia' cases are running from a crime. Except Craig Williamson, i don't think he was.... the fish guy on the train

Yet another case where the "amnesiac wakes up not knowing who they are":

--inexplicably is found >500 miles away (if he didn't fake it, how did this happen?)
--ditched his identification (same question as above)
--any combination of serious financial, marital, or legal trouble (pick at least 2)

There's at least 3 cases that fit that criteria...

Broadnik lived in Indiana, was found in Wyoming
Craig Williamson, lived in Wisconsin, was found in South Florida
Arthur Paul Beale lived In Idaho, found in Vegas (600 mile distance or so)

None of them remember how they got there, because it's all bull ****

My thought is perhaps his friends want to help him, so one or more suggest UM. What's the "amnesiac" supposed to say? "No, I don't want to go on national television to find out who I am?"

They then have to play along that they had no idea who they were when confronted with what happened.
