This sitom is about a married couple, her sister, their children, and a boyfriend. The married couple are Ron and Patty Bunke (John Goodman, Kirstie Alley), they deal with thier marriage, kids, family, work, life, love, their weight problems, etc. Patty's sister, Laurie (Kim Cattrall) lives nearby and often drops in to "hang out" with Patty and the family. Laurie feels like and considered "part of the family". Ron and Patty have three kids: Aaron Bunke, 24 (Kyle Howard), Megan Bunke, 21 (Mila Kunis), and Kellie Bunke, 18 (Rachel Bilson). Kellie's boyfriend, Luke (Adam Brody) is always at the Bunke home and feels like and considered "part of the family". Luke's mom died hours after giving birth to him, and his dad is a workaholic businessman who is always away on business trips. Ron owns his own construction crew. Patty is a receptionist for a beauty salon. Laurie is a therpist who is her best patient. Aaron is a college dropout who now works for his dad's construction crew. Megan is going to college to become a dental assistant, yet works at the a fashionable clothing store in the mall. Kellie and Luke are high school seniors who both work at a fancy Italian restuarant. Kellie works as a hostess, Luke works as a waiter. The Bunke clan lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. Aaron and Megan still live at home with their parents and Kellie-sometimes to their advantage and sometimes to their disadvantage. To make matters worse (in a way), Ron and Patty's marriage is slowly falling apart over the years. To put the spice back into their marriage, Patty drags Ron along with her once a month to see a marriage counselor, Dr. Sarah Brownstone(Patricia Richardson)-who happens to be close friends to Laurie.

Ep1: Pilot Episode:
Patty decides to drag Ron along with her to go see a marriage counselor, Dr. Sarah Brownstone. Ron becomes offended when Sarah accuses him of being the reason why his and Patty's marriage has been rocky over the years. Meanwhile, Aaron and Megan walk in on Kellie and Luke making out in the basement/rec room.
Ep2: Privacy Issue:
Aaron demands some more privacy after having Patty walk in on him getting dressed in the morning. Patty and Aaron can't look at each other for days. Ron feels Kellie and Luke's relationship is getting a little too serious after hearing them tell each other that they love each other.
Ep3: Big Dreamin':
Megan shares her dream of someday moving to California to become a dental assistant, which leaves Ron and Patty to believe Megan wants to get far away from them after college. Megan realizes how her parents feel and considers becoming a dental assistant closer to home. Meanwhile, Luke learns his dad (Tim Daly) will be in China on a business trip over the week of his birthday.
Ep4: To The Mall, We Go:
Patty, Laurie, Megan, and Kellie go to a mall one day. Megan and Kellie fight over who should be able to buy a certain red sweater. Laurie bumps into an old flame and his new pregnant wife, causing Laurie to think what could have been. Meanwhile, Ron and Aaron have to deal with a new co-worker who "accidently" always shows up a half hour late for his first week-until Ron fires him on the day he actually shows up on time.
Ep5: Diet Fever:
Patty convinces Ron to go on a diet with her, as they want to renew their vows on their 25th wedding anniversary in 5 weeks, and Patty wants to fit into her wedding dress again. Ron is sneaking candy bars and is caught by Megan and Kellie, who blackmail Ron into giving them each shopping money.
Ep6: Bon Voyage, Pops:
Luke sees his dad head to China. Kellie wants to throw Luke a surprise 18th birthday party. Kellie recruits the family to help her out. Luke is surprised and happy he has such a caring girlfriend (and her family). Patty and Ron consider having Luke stay with them (in Aaron's room) while his dad is away.
Ep7: Moving In:
Luke moves into Aaron's room. Even though, he gets along with Luke very well, Aaron is less than thrilled by getting a roommate. Megan is invited to a friends' baby shower. She goes, and is shocked to learn half of her friends are having babies (at age 21). Megan imagines having a baby at her age, and soon is happy she is not pregnant.
Ep8: Spa Trip Baby:
Laurie wins four free tickets for a spa resort for a whole weekend stay. Laurie, Patty, Megan, and Kellie go to have a good time. Patty ends up being called "ma'am" a couple times which spoils her fun stay. Megan and Laurie secretly fight for a hunky massage therapist (Dan Cortese), who turns out to be happily married with five kids-poping both women's bubbles. Kellie decides she really misses Luke.
Ep9: Live, Love, and Laugh:
Aaron, Megan, Kellie, and Luke decide up to the family cabin in Wisconsin for the weekend, but get lost and stranded in middle of nowhere. Meanwhile, Dr. Brownstone has lunch with Laurie immediately after Ron and Patty's session. During lunch, Sarah spills the beans to Laurie about Ron and Patty's intimate details of their relationship breaking the confidentiality argeement. Leaving Laurie to mention stuff mentioned in their session, causing Ron and Patty to become angry and furious with Dr. Brownstone.
Ep10: After 25 Years:
Ron and Patty renew their vows at a small chapel, Ron asks Aaron to be best man, Luke to be groomsmen. Patty asks Laurie to be maid of honor again, Megan and Kellie to be bridesmaids. Everything is going great until Ron experiences severe chest pains (at the alter) and needs to be rushed to the hospital. The family takes Ron to the hospital.
Ep11: Is He Okay?:
Patty, Laurie, and the kids are anxiously awaiting the results from the doctor's examination of Ron. When the doctor tells them that Ron has suffered a severe heart attack and will need to have triple bypass surgery, Patty and the kids freak-but Patty freaks the most of everyone there. Laurie refuses to leave Patty alone, after she sends everyone home as she plans to stay overnight.
Ep12: Complications:
Ron's triple bypass surgery begins to experience complications, scaring Patty half to death. Patty calls Laurie but not the kids not to worry them. But word get to the kids-who are furious with Patty for not telling them sooner. By the end of the night, Ron overcomes the complications and is fine, yet needs time to recover. Patty, Aaron, Megan, and Kellie each get to see and speak with a semi-drugged up Ron.
Ep13: Return Home, Ronnie Boy:
Ron gets to return home, but Ron has to take time off from work-much to his dismay. Aaron helps his dad out and takes charge at work while he is off of work. Patty decides to cook healthier food for the whole family and decides to cancel sessions with Dr. Brownstone-to pay for doctor bills. Luke recieves a personal phone call from a work friend of Luke's dad.
Ep14: Bad News Carrington:
Luke learns his dad has met a woman in China, and is now engaged to her and is accepting the position of China Sales Representative for the company. Luke is furious that his dad is getting married so soon after meeting a stranger, moving to China, not even calling him himself, and not even considering his son's feelings. Patty and a slightly-recovered Ron console a furiously upset Luke, and decide to have him permanently live with them.
Ep15: Career Change:
Megan decides to cancel her plans of becoming a dental assistant and wants to pursue her new-found dream of becoming a social worker. Ron learns that Aaron is having a hard time controlling the crew but is not telling Ron and is trying his best. Ron steps in and has a secret "chat" with the crew when Aaron is not around, causing the crew to show Aaron some respect while Ron is still not able to return for another couple weeks.
Ep16: Frat House Party:
Luke and Kellie get invited to a college frat house party, they go and end up having fun by each having a few beers and couple shots. But the party is soon over, when cops come to break up a fight and see some intoxicated underage teens there. Luke, Kellie, and other kids are taken to police station until their parents show up. Ron and Patty pick up Kellie and Luke, yet the police won't let Luke leave with them-they secretly have Laurie pretend to be his mom-which works. Everyone is happy until the teens come home and must face the wrath of Ron and Patty.
Ep17: Not My Baby:
Aaron's ex-girlfriend, Sarah (Tara Reid) shows up with news-he is the father of her baby that she is 7 months pregnant with. Sarah refuses to believe the baby is not his, yet Aaron knows the baby is not his for a factor (since he hasn't had sex with anyone sadly for the past 10 months). Meanwhile, Patty makes Sarah have a paternity test, results show Aaron is not the father.

After hearing about Ron's heart attack, Ron's mother, Marie (Doris Roberts) and Ron's aunt, Pearl (Estelle Harris) decide to stay with the family until Ron is fully-recovered. Ron, Patty, and the kids each experience the elderly women lecturing them about something or other. The family can't wait to have them leave, until they realize how great cooks and housekeepers they both are.
Ep19: A Sad Good-Bye:
Ron, Patty, and the four kids say good-bye to Marie and Pearl as they plan to leave after their week stay. The family must get back to the way things were before they arrived (such as cooking meals, housekeeping). Kellie recieves a D on her Chemistry test, sending her into a frenzy-until Megan and Luke explain to her they each have gotten D's in Chemistry before by the same hard-nosed teacher.
Ep20: Back To Work:
Ron goes back to work, leaving Aaron to go back to his old job. Yet after seeing how well he had done when he was gone, Ron decides to promote Aaron as his assistant. Luke and Kellie learn about the waiter/waitress's strike at work, yet in fear of getting fired-they refuse to join the strike. Their boss give them each $2 raises in pay.
Ep21: Meeting Nicole Richie:
At the salon, Patty and her co-workers learn that Nicole Richie is getting her hair-done there. Patty and her co-workers are excited, Patty tells the kids the news. The four kids "drop everything" to get the change to meet her. Yet there has been a big mistake, not Nicole Richie made an appointment, but Nicole Richards made an appointment. Nicole Richards is just an average soccer mom of four kids in her 30s. Causing the staff and the kids to get disappointed. Laurie bribes Ron into having lunch next week with her, but makes Ron promise not to tell Patty or the kids.
Ep22: Lunch With An In-Law:
Ron gives in and goes out to lunch with Laurie, where Laurie drops a bomb onto Ron-Laurie is pregnant. Ron is shocked when he remembers he promised not to tell Patty, even though he really needs to tell her Laurie's news. Patty actually finds a home pregnancy test in the upstairs bathroom. Knowing its not hers, she questions Megan and Kellie, both denying it is theirs. Word gets around to Laurie about Patty finding the test in the bathroom. Laurie comes clean to a shocked and definitely not speechless Patty, who also apologizes to Megan and Kellie afterwards.
Ep23: Graduation Daze:
It is Kellie and Luke's Graduation Day. They have a double-grad party at the family home. Luke realizes he wishes his dad was present. Then, Luke recieves a call from his newly-married dad in China who shares the news that he is now married and he and his new wife are moving back to home.
Ep24: Crisis At Home:
Luke tells the family about his dad and new stepmom moving back home, Luke informs them that he will probably have to move back in with them. Luke thanks the family, who offer a place to stay whenever he wants (Yet he can't stay in Kellie's room though-in a jokingly way). Ron and Aaron must deal with a co-worker who must be with his wife who is having their first-born child, they let him leave until the guy faints-the men must drive him to the hospital to see his wife and son.
Ep25: Bahama Mama:
Laurie treats Ron, Patty, Aaron, Megan, Kellie, and Luke to a weeklong trip to Bahamas. Laurie, Patty, Megan, and Kellie decide to hit the shops, the spas, the beach, etc. As Ron, Aaron, and an underage Luke hit the bars-where the men lie about Luke's age and they must pretend he is 21. Meanwhile, back at home, Luke's dad, Joe (Tim Daly) and Luke's new stepmom, Kim (Lucy Liu) move back into their home-Joe and Kim await for Luke's arrival back from the Bahamas with the Bunkes (and Laurie).
