during the introduction on the pay phone episode of season 1, Mike was waiting for a phone call in his den with Carol by his side. Each time the phone would ring, it would be a call for another member of his family. One call was from Sam the butcher and he calls for alice who in turn says.."I'll get it in the kitchen" Mike and Carol then proceed discussing about getting a "2nd phone". If this was the case and the only phone in the house was in Mikes den, then what was Alice using to answer Sams call? Anyone else notice this?

There was also a phone in the parents' bedroom and one in the living room. That made a total of four extension phones, but what he meant was that they needed another phone LINE (a second phone #).

That is true. However during one scene Mike was hopping back and forth from his den(the supposed original phone) to the family room(the alleged second phone) trying to reach an unused phone but each time both phones were occupied. During the later episodes, phones were also seen in the living room and the master bedroom. I also noticed during a pop up episode of the brady bunch, it stated that Robert Reed hated this episode with the pay phone calling it "stupid".
