View Full Version : Money or friends? Listen to this story
GARFIELDKOOL 02-11-2005, 11:31 AM I do bank deposits for my job dailey. I was in the bank yesterday and when the teller waited on me, she told me the customer that was ahead of me deposited $6,000 worth of winnings she won on a scratch off ticket. It was really $10,000 before taxes. Anyway, it was given to her for a birthday present from her best friend. When her best friend found out she won all that money, she wanted a cut. The birthday lady denied her, and the friend was mad that they aren't speaking to one another. Wow! The lady isn't entitled to give her anything because that was a gift. I guess she expected her to win a buck or something. Me personally, I would have gave the friend a few hundred because if she didn't buy me the scratch off, I wouldn't have won anything. What would you all have done?
Janice 02-11-2005, 11:38 AM I would have given her $1,000. I tend to be overly generous though.
This is a cautionary tale of what money can do to relationships. I never, ever give lottery tickets as gifts. I couldn't handle it if I made someone else rich.
A few years ago, my friend and her husband went to a holiday party. It had something to do with their kids sports, so they weren't personal friends with the other guests. Every couple had to bring a $10 dollar gift for a present swap. One couple brought a $10 scratch ticket. The couple who got this gift hit for a million dollars.
I'd be in a rubber room if I gave someone a winning ticket for a million dollars.

That was deep, Georgia! Ha Ha!
Mijada 02-11-2005, 01:30 PM I would have given her a little something. Technically she wasn't entitled to anything because it was a gift but I wouldn't want to lose a friendship over a few thousand bucks and if she could have rerally used the money I would have been happy to share it with her.

Sterling Holobyte 02-11-2005, 03:28 PM I wouldn't give her jack***. She gave it as a gift, if she didn't want her to win any money she shouldn't have given her a lottery ticket in the first place. What, if she would have bought her a new dress would she say, "here's your present, but can I wear it on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays?"! There used to be a name for people like that... Indian giver... is what they would call her.

MandieR1980 02-11-2005, 04:02 PM I would have given her something without her asking that's what a good friend would have done.
Belair 02-11-2005, 04:28 PM This post has just reaffirmed why i do not give scratchies to friends for their birthday ;) If i had won the money though,I'd give my friend about $1,000.Its only fair,I reckon.
Sterling Holobyte 02-11-2005, 04:41 PM I would have given her something without her asking that's what a good friend would have done.
Well sure, I would have given her something if she hadn't demanded a cut of it. But she's not much of a friend if she drops you because you won't give her some money.
Dutabi84 02-11-2005, 05:20 PM If I were the winner, I'd probably give a couple hundred to the person who gave it to me. If I were on the other side of it, there's no way in hell I'd ask for a cut of the winnings.
I'd be in a rubber room if I gave someone a winning ticket for a million dollars.
Yeah, I'd be happy for them if they won...but I'd be just sick to my stomach thinking all that dough could have been mine.
Dude111 05-20-2023, 11:31 PM i'd tell the bitch off, she doesnt deserve anythingI dunbo what I would do...... Its hard for me to be mean to people..... I would probably give her $2000 :)
