I always wondered why the audience always would cheer whenever Sherman Hemsley showed up on a sitcom. (He was in "Fresh Prince" and "Sister, sister" too.) But then, I heard about "The Jeffersons". I don't think they ever even aired that show over here in Sweden.

I think I VAGUELY remember him guesting on FM. I do remember his guest spots as Grandpa Campbell on Sister, Sister. It's funny because Sherman Hemsley is only like 6 years older than his on-screen son, Tim Reid.

Oh, really! I never thought there was such a small age difference!

He was only a few years older than his kids on the Jeffersons (Mike Evans and Damon Evans as Lionel) and Amen (Anna Maria Horsford as Thelma). Odd, isn't it?

Does he really look so much older than his real age then?

To me, he always seemed older because his characters had older kids. But he was only in his mid-30s when he began playing George Jefferson!!!
