im not understanding the point system

You're given 100 points to divide among your top ten favorite albums. You can't give any album more than 30 points and you can't give any album fewer than 5 points. However you use the points, it has to add up to 100. One simple way is to give each album ten points, but the more points you give an album, the higher it'll be in the poll. I'll use my top ten as an example.

1.Musicology - Prince (30)
2.Beautifully Human - Jill Scott (10)
3.Rebel Soul Music - Martin Luther (10)
4.The New Danger - Mos Def (10)
5.Van Hunt - Van Hunt (8)
6.After Hours - Rahsaan Patterson (8)
7.Stone Love - Angie Stone (7)
8.Confessions (Special Edition) - Usher (7)
9.3 Chords & The Truth - Anthony David (5)
10.Lyfe 268-192 - Lyfe Jennings (5)

The points in parentheses add up to 100. I gave Musicology the maximum because, assuming other people would choose it, it'll rank higher in the poll.

So in the actual poll, more critics (245) picked Kanye's cd as one of the top ten of the year than any other album, and it got more points (2826) than any other album. It's a poll I look forward to seeing every year, especially the one from 1987. (http://www.villagevoice.com/specials/pazznjop/04/search_return.php?poll_year=1987&type=A&keyword=)
