It won't let me in! Steve Lolac 02-10-2005, 02:29 PM Lolac, Are you a subscriber to that site? It won't let me in! Steve No, I'm not. I think SO is not letting us in because I can't access it from the board, either. I will PM it to you. It is funny! Lolac  David VP 02-10-2005, 10:07 PM That is fantastic! I love it! Hey, I gotta tell ya -- that guy is pretty good too! I love it when he starts to sit back down in his chair -- but it seems he just CANNOT control his desire to get back up and start movin' again. Great! :) Lolac 02-10-2005, 10:09 PM That is fantastic! I love it! Hey, I gotta tell ya -- that guy is pretty good too! I love it when he starts to sit back down in his chair -- but it seems he just CANNOT control his desire to get back up and start movin' again. Great! :) David, were you able to access the site from my post? Some of us, including me, can't! Lolac  David VP 02-10-2005, 10:25 PM Yes, I accessed it....no problem. Well, you've got to download the file first -- which I did. Then it automatically transfers the program/clip to my Windows Media Player. Played perfectly. Good quality too. Made me wanna get up & boogie too! LOL. :) Lolac 02-10-2005, 10:33 PM Yes, I accessed it....no problem. Well, you've got to download the file first -- which I did. I keep watching it over and over because it makes me laugh! I love the guy's total abandon! We need more people like him in the world! Lolac  David VP 02-10-2005, 10:40 PM I truly enjoyed that clip too. Music's good too, IMO. :) Can't understand why the download won't go through for some of you. Odd. SawgrassSteve 02-11-2005, 10:47 AM Lolac, After reading the comments from you guys I decided I wasn't going to miss out on the fun. I did a "Copy & Paste" to my IE browser window with the link you provided, and after hitting "refresh" a couple of times, presto! It played. Nice clip! Nice moves and music too! Thanks. Steve Lolac 02-11-2005, 11:08 AM Steve, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Lolac  SawgrassSteve 02-16-2005, 08:48 PM Speaking of "21st Century," I had a pleasant experience I'd like to share with you all. One of my coworkers is a young, 26 year-old guy whom, as I discovered, never even saw a single episode of TDVDS  . I left him a 4-episode disc from my "Time/Life" collection with a note to watch it and get back to me. He loved it! He enjoyed it so much, he told me he watched it again with his girlfriend, also a first-timer, and that they watched all the eps at once because they were so good  ! It get's better! Later that week (last week), they went out together to a club that had digital trivia game terminals at each table, and they decided to play :typing: . They did ok, but could never seem to pull ahead :2help . Then the bonus question came up, "What's the name of the fictional TV star that Rob Petrie writes for on TDVDS?" They looked at each other, then hit the "Alan Brady" answer and got 1,000 points, giving them a solid lead and eventually winning the game for them  ! He couldn't wait to come back to work to thank me :tiphat: . Steve Lolac 02-16-2005, 08:57 PM Great story, Steve! Lolac  jillm816 02-17-2005, 11:05 AM that is great! another 'convert'! Lolac 02-17-2005, 02:28 PM I left him a 4-episode disc from my "Time/Life" collection with a note to watch it and get back to me. He loved it! Steve Steve, which 4 episodes did you give him to watch? Just curious! Lolac  SawgrassSteve 02-17-2005, 04:21 PM Steve, which 4 episodes did you give him to watch? Just curious! Lolac  1) "What's In A Middle Name" 2) "The Curious Thing About Women" 3) "All About Eavesdropping" 4) "One Angry Man" Steve Larry Surrell 02-17-2005, 08:40 PM I had a pleasant experience I'd like to share with you all. One of my coworkers is a young, 26 year-old guy whom, as I discovered, never even saw a single episode of TDVDS  . I left him a 4-episode disc from my "Time/Life" collection with a note to watch it and get back to me. He loved it! Steve You're lucky, Steve. I have the misfortune to work in the same room with a couple of 30 something kids who've ridiculed me for liking The Dick Van Dyke Show. They may be in their 30s chronologically, but many time act like 10 year olds, however! Just today I made a reference to Ted Baxter in front of a young freelancer at work (I think he's in his 20s) and he asked "Who's that?" I explained that Ted was a character ot The Mary Tyler Moore Show and his response was "Oh, I've never seen that show." Moments like that make me feel old. :( SawgrassSteve 02-17-2005, 10:39 PM Larry Surrell, Rest assured, we've all had those moments. Once, when I was buying clothes, one of the sales persons asked me how I came about my knowledge of fashion, and I mentioned that it all started with "Miami Vice." "What's that," she asked? "It was a huge, hit TV show in the 80's," I said. "Haven't you ever heard of it?" "Oh yeah, I think my Dad used to watch it when I was little," she said. "Or, was it my grandpa...?" Steve jillm816 02-18-2005, 01:26 PM Don't feel bad! It doesn't make you old! Just feel sorry for them, that they never knew the great TV that you were privledged to know! I'm 25 now, and when I was growing up (besides cartoons) I loved to watch Nick at Nite the most. That's when they showed Donna Reed, My Three Sons, Patty Duke, and then TMTMS, DVD, I love Lucy, etc. Feel sorry for them, that they best they can come up with now is "The Simple Life" and "The OC" puke: boy have they missed out! SawgrassSteve 02-18-2005, 07:16 PM Don't feel bad! It doesn't make you old! Just feel sorry for them, that they never knew the great TV that you were privledged to know! Thanks for being so supportive to us old-timers, jillm816! Steve Pic courtesy of PBS.org & "The Gin Game" (http://www.pbs.org/hollywoodpresents/gingame/id/id_dir_1.html) Larry Surrell 02-18-2005, 11:04 PM I second that thanks to jillm816. It's nice to know there are still some young people in this world with common sense and good taste  Nora 02-21-2005, 09:28 AM I am an enormous Gene Kelly fan (and no, that doesn't mean I'm overweight! :D ) and always have been. Not only was he one of the sexiest and best looking guys to come out of Hollywood, he was a terpsichorean genius. I am always delighted when someone says they've never seen him in a film or have never seen him dance. I had them a DVD and sit back and wait. The accolades and hosannahs are *always* effusive! Same with TDVDS...if you find someone who has never seen the show, give them a copy...they can't help but love it! It's fun to introduce folks to new things and watch them be amazed. And hey, you twenty somethings...I've got it worse! I'm 49...I have double the frustration of people not knowing the gems of the past! Imagine how our grand parents and great grandparents feel! They had some of the best entertainers and movies in their time than any other generation. jillm816 02-22-2005, 01:11 PM you're welcome! ;) Jill SawgrassSteve 03-03-2005, 10:25 AM I wanna share another experience I had at work. I was removing a disc from the player at the end of my break when a thirty-something female coworking came in. "What's that Steve, a movie?" "Nope. It's TDVDS on dvd." She rolled her eyes  , "Oh. I never cared for that show. Now, if you'd said "I Love Lucy or Andy Griffith, that would be different." "Have you ever watched it," I asked? "Yes, a few times. I just don't like him." We spoke a little more about work related stuff as I put my disc away and headed for the door. Then she said, "You know which person on that show I really liked? Laura Petrie. She was kinda cool." "I agree," I said. Common ground was found. Steve Lolac 03-03-2005, 04:52 PM I had a little fun experience the other day. I belong to MSNZone.com, which is a games site. I like to play Hearts there and my screen name is _Lolac_of_Twilo. Well, I have been playing there for a couple of years and just this week, someone finally said to me, "I get it! Lolac of Twilo was a character Laura Petrie played on the Dick Van Dyke Show!" I told her it was and I have to say, it made my day! Lolac :loveya: |
