Did anyone see that one....it was weird. But I didn't hear if whether or not it was real.

Ive seen shows on human combustion before, not sure if ive seen the UM episode or not. Most of the material on this subject seems to be from England for some reason. I think its one of those things that the general public dosent know wether or not to believe. ***Did the UM espisode happen to mention wether or not the person(s) were smoking and drinking? Seems that is the one common link in all those types of cases. Im talking about the hard stuff, not beer.

The SHC cases shown on UM were total bunk. Both of the victims were smokers if I recall. They even mentioned that one guy had a history of setting his clothes on fire with his pipe if I remember correctly.

I saw the one where the old man had only his leg left in the bathroom. That was so spooky... I cringed just thinking that this could happen. I believe the people are smoking or drinking just like the poster before me mentioned.

Oh... and they said the old man had some matches in his pocket robe.

Yes I saw that episode last week.Lifetime showed the shc episode of UM last Friday. Two of the victims were smokers but a 3rd victim a woman wasn't smoking her back just caught fire and her husband was able to extinguish her before the fire engulfed her.Her back had smoke coming off of it and a blue spot were it started.According to the show she was one of the rare few who survived it.

The original arson investigators investigating the first man mentioned on this segment, George Mott, believed that an electrical arc from a faulty electrical outlet was the source for the fire. The spontaneous combustion guy interviewed said that forensic experts believed that the temperature of the fire had to be 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Electrical arcs can produce (https://www.electricityforum.com/iep/arc-flash/electrical-arc-flash#:~:text=Electrical%20Arc%20Flash%20produces%20some,been%20recognized%20as%20potentially%20dangerous.) temperatures of up to 35,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Scorch marks were found on one of the outlets in Mott's bedroom.

As for the other man mentioned in the segment, John Bentley, he was known to keep matches in his pocket of his robe, and that some of the ashes from the pipe he smoked had fallen into the pocket causing the fire. His robe was found in the bathtub as well as a broken water pitcher. Seems like he woke up to find himself on fire, tried going to the bathroom to extinguish the fire, but passed out before he could put the fire out and burned to death.

SHC I don't see as a real thing. I believe that in almost every single case, the people had two things in common, and often three or four. The most common at the top here.

1) Overweight. Lots of fat to burn.
2) Smokers. Providing the ignition source
3) Loose clothing or blankets to act as a wick.
4) Pain medication. Which knocked them out and didn't wake them while they were literally burning to death.

All the above being said. The fact that the fires are so contained.. That's the part of it that I can't noodle through entirely. But.. I'm also not a fire investigator. Though, I believe, they have the same gobsmackedness that I do about that fact.

FWIW.. I'm doing a happy dance here. An episode *I* remember that many others don't.. lol. I may not remember all the specifics, but I do remember this one!
