you would have a bunch of dead muthaf**kas, broke muthaf**kas, & niqqas would be in prison hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. He's right about that cause rap music has taken a lot of unintelligent ignorant street african american men off the streets from hustling, robbing, sellin drugs. Dr Dre said rap music is a job now which it is. Rappers better be glad that this artform got started cause what else could they do if they weren't rappin? LOL.

If rap never existed, black men could have gotten scholarships to Juilliard or Berklee so they could learn how to play real music, assuming Congress funded education in he arts adequately, and we would be a whole lot better off for not having to listen to rap! So - THERE! :p

THE FAD IS DEAD, PEOPLE!!!! Chanting over someone else's music and manufactured "drum beats" is not the most original thing in the world!!!!

Somewhere, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, and Sonny Boy Williamson must be turning over in their graves.

as much as I hate rap and consider it a cancer on the face of mainstream popular music (I knew it was bad when last year I was rooting for BRITNEY SPEARS to do well), i don't think it's going away anytime in the near future. Teenyboppers are too brainwashed and rappers will always believe their music is in some way superior.

Did anyone see Da Brat on The Surreal Life calling Jane Wiedlin a has been? talk about classic stuff.... at least The Go-Go's had plenty of recordings that are still listened to over twenty years later, what does Da Brat have except for her appearence in the movie Glitter? lol

Rap will survive as long as there are inner cities, underfunded social programs, poor public education, and the middle-class preference for suburbia that has caused cities all over America to lose their tax bases; that's what creates a pathological ghetto culture that allows rap to continue. But rock can prosper if it offers a fresh alternative like Nirvana over a decade ago and if such an alternative is allowed to grow - that is, if there's a music mogul with the guts to let it grow. Unless these things happen for rock, there's no way it will regain dominance over rap in the pop world.

I saw Da Brat call Jane a has been. Da Brat has only a platinum album which is her first album Funkdafied & a gold album which is her 2nd album Anuthatantrum. Her last 2 albums are wack so she can't call anybody a has been LOL. If Da Brat isn't a has been, what is she doing on The Surreal Life? Hahahahahahahahaha.

problem is, the music industry is too impatient to see if the next Nirvana will happen. I remember a few years ago, they were shoving The Vines down your throat as "the next Nirvana" before the album even came out, and when it did, there was no way they were able to live up to the hype.

that is true, if you've accepted an offer to do a season of The Surreal Life, it's pretty safe to say your days as an "is now" are finished, lol.

but rock also isn't shoved down your throat in every medium possible besides country stations, hip hop IS. Even rock stations play Eminem and stuff like Kid Rock/Limp Bizkit which is more hip hop than rock.

With that narrowminded attitude, what would he say if there was no professional sports?

I think those guys are a little more intimidating than any poser rapper.
And besides, it's all CRAP. Give people credit.

i can see where your comin from but all our stations are more geared toward pop/rock unless you want to listen to the college station that plays all rap from like 7-9 at night

I wish we had channels like that here, we have a few oldies and classic rock channels, but hardly anything specializing in current rock/pop.

I think the big reason people are so against hip hop is the fact that it really has taken over. I mean, if you don't like Hoobastank or Green Day, you have plenty of escapes that you won't hear them or anything that sounds like them, people who don't like hip hop do not have that luxury unless you wanna go the country route.

Idiots like 50 Cent & G Unit, or Lil Jon constantly rapping about tits & ass is what makes rap look so bad.

I like some rap but none of the T&A songs...

Rap today is not the same as it was in it's origins. It started out where rappers would fight it out with words, it was like a battle to see who could rap better.
Today it is all about the "Benjamins", the "bling-bling", and the "ho's".

ok sure:

rap is more than just drum beats and sampling which is your impression of it, and I can see where your comin from cause alot of the rap **cough cough Lil Jon, Lil Wayne cough cough** but theres alot more to rap than that. I will post some examples of lyrics and if you want I will upload some of the songs and send them to you if you want.

"Keep Your Head To The Sky"

Keep on you so try
Keep on singing let's try
Keep on moving try

Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try
Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try

To all my little shorties coming up in school
Don't forget what they said about the golden rule
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
Your life is what you make it, and that's true
And if you don't know what I'm talkin' 'bout
Then listen up to what a beat
You better watch what's coming out'cha mouth
'Cause while you're talkin' 'bout your friends
Showing these messages you sent
Gotta real funny way of comin' back again
I know that life can be a struggle (struggle, struggle)
You stayin' in and out of trouble (trouble, trouble)
Weapons used, killin' our youth
What's up with that?
You feelin' used and abused
Wanna strike back
Then do yourself a favor
Take the anger, flip it around
I'm telling you He's the savior
There's more to life than you may ever know
But you must recognize
What it means to grow

Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try
Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try

In the mist of all this confusion, burnt bridges turn into bruises
I conjure flames out in fusion, mental combustion to music
Compells the demons to shatter
Miscontrusing the fantastic
Imagine how clear is to plastics
Time to fault the unnatural
Copin' and dealin', makin' me feel like I'm about to burn any second
Losin' the feelin' like life is depressin'
Generations are burnin' and people ain't the same no more
For real 'cause he drops, she drops, what happend to the fall we rise?
It's nothin' but encouragement, we encourage with pride
If you instill the blessings and return to now for no lie
Unfold your eyes, don't be blinded by the pain and the tears
You never dried
Realize peer pressures of our young adolescents
Bulletproof vestin'
And searchin' for questions
We tell them everything but the truth
For instance there's pride inside
Squash the bull**** and you'll be all right
And we'll make it to that other side

Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try
Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try

Now as we step into the light and grab the mic
Let's try to look for difference between wrong and right
You know they listenin' to everything that we resite
But if it's glistenin', that makes it a'ight
We got shorties on the blocks who know they glocks
Believe it or not
We raisin' the last generation through Hip-Hop
We can't forget about Playstation, you don't stop
What's wrong with the nation? It's flip-flop
But we can turn it all around, starting with the sound
Spreadin' love from the Rock 'N Roll to the Underground
We gotta take control of our minds, bodies, and souls
Never fall, never fold, never fold
And then let the truth be told, there it go
Let it show
Open your mouth, and let it flow
Into the depths and through the blackest hole
We can find rainbows and a pot of gold

Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try
Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try

Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try
Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try

Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try
Keep your head to the sky
Lift your life and reach high
Wipe your tears and don't cry
You will make it if you try

"Never Let Me Down"
(feat. Jay-Z, J-Ivy)

[Intro:]
Yeah Grandmama
Told you i won't let you down
Told you i won't let this rap game change me, right?

[Chorus:]
When it comes to being true, at least true to me
One thing i found,one thing i found
Oh no you'll neva let me down,
Get up i get(down)
Get up i get(down)
Get up i get(down)
Get up i get(down)
Get up i get(down)
Get up i get(down)

[Jay-Z:]
Yo, yo first i snatched the street then i snatched the charts,
First had they ear now i hav they're heart,
Rappers came and went,
I've been hear from the start,
Seen them put it together
Watch them take it apart,
See the Rovers roll up wit ribbons
I've seen them re-poed, re-sold and re-driven
So when i reload, he holds #1 position
When u hot i'm hot
And when your feet cold, mines is sizzelin
It's plain to see
niqqa's can't f*** wit me
Cuz ima be that niqqa fo life
This is not an image
This is God given
This is hard liven
Mixed wit crystall sippin
It's the most consistent
Hov
Give you the most hits you can fit inside a whole disc and
niqqa I'm home on these charts, y'all niqqaz visitin
It's Hov tradition, Jeff Gordan of rap
I'm back to claim pole position, holla at ya boy

[Chorus]

[Kanye West:]
I get down for my grandfather who took my momma
Made her sit that seat where white folks aint wanna us to eat
At the tender age of 6 she was arrested for the sit in
With that in my blood i was born to be different
Now niqqas can't make it to ballots to choose leadership
But we can make it to Jacob and to the dealership
That's why I hear new music
And i jus dont be feelin it
Racism still alive they jus be consealin it
But i know they don't want me in the damn club
They even made me show I.D to get inside of Sam's club
I did dirt and went to church to get my hands scrubbed
Swear I've been baptised at least 3 or 4 times
But in the land where niqqa's praise
Yukons and getting paid
It gon take a lot more than coupons to get us saved
Like it take a lot more than do-rags to get your waves
Notin sadder than that day my girl father past away
So i promised to MR.rany i'm gonna marry your daughter
And u know i gotta thank u for they way that she was brought up
And i know that u were smiling when u see that car i bought her
And u sent tears from heaven when u seen my car get balled up
But i can't complaint what the accident did to my left eye
Cuz look what a accident did to left eye
First Aaliyah and now romeo must die
I know a got angels watchin me from the other side

[Chorus x2]

[J.Ivy:]
We are all here for a reason on a particular path
You don't need a curriculum to know that you are part of the math
Cats think I'm delirious, but I'm so damn serious
That's why I expose my soul to the globe, the world
I'm trying to make it better for these little boys and girls
I'm not just another individual, my spirit is a part of this
That's why I get spiritual, but I get my hymns from Him
So it's not me, it's He that's lyrical
I'm not a miracle, I'm a heaven-sent instrument
My rhythmatic regimen navigates melodic notes for your soul and your mental
That's why I'm instrumental
Vibrations is what I'm into
Yeah, I need my loot by rent day
But that is not what gives me the heart of Kunte Kinte
I'm tryina give us "us free" like Cinque
I can't stop, that's why I'm hot
Determination, dedication, motivation
I'm talking to you, my many inspirations
When I say I can't, let you or self down
If I were of the highest cliff, on the highest riff
And you slipped down the side and clinched on to your life in my grip
I would never, ever let you down
And when these words are found
Let it been known that God's penmanship has been signed with a language called love
That's why my breath is felt by the deaf
And why my words are heard and confined to the ears of the blind
I, too, dream in color and in rhyme
So I guess I'm one of a kind in a full house
Cuz whenever I open my heart, my soul, or my mouth
A touch of God reigns out

[Chorus]

[Jay-Z (Kanye West)]
Who else you know been hot this long,
(Oh Ya, you know we ain't finished)
Started from nothing but he got this strong,
(The ROC is in the building)
Built the ROC from a pebble, pedalled rock before I met you,
Pedalled bikes, got my nephews pedal bikes because they special,
Let you tell that man I'm falling,
Well somebody must've caught him,
Cause every fourth quarter, I like to Mike Jordan 'em,
Number one albums, what I got like four of dem,
More of dem on the way,
The Eight Wonder on the way,
Clear the way, I'm here to stay,
Y'all can save the chitter chat, this and that, this and Jay,
Dissin' Jay 'ill get you mased,
When I start spitting them lyrics, niqqas get very religious,
Six Hail Maries, please Father forgive us,
Young, the Archbishop, the Pope John Paul of y'all niqqas,
The way y'all all follow Jigga,
Hov's a living legend and I tell you why,
Everybody wanna be Hov and Hov still alive.

it's not meaningless i just think that rap lyrics are alot deeper and theres alot more thought put into the raps than in rock songs. No disrespect to rock at all
