We're a week away from the Grammys. If you had a vote for the five nominees for Album of The Year Grammy, which one would get your vote?

Genius Loves Company - Ray Charles & Various Artists

American Idiot - Green Day

The Diary Of Alicia Keys - Alicia Keys

Confessions - Usher

College Dropout - Kanye West

I kindly ask that no one posts any "I hate ________" messages. If you don't like any of them, don't post. I'm just interested in seeing the popular choice among SO members, thanks.

I would have to say that the award will go to Ray Charles however I do believe Alicia had the strongest album of the year. Usher's was very good but not as consistent as Alicia's. I'm sure Green Day's album is good but I haven;t heard it.

I'm shocked. I would've thought no one would top Usher for you.

 Usher's still my baby hahaha but I just gotta go w/ Alicia on this one she always goes the extra mile to make sure everything is perfect...Usher had some mediocre songs on his album (ie. Can U Handle It) and the end was weak. It doesn't matter anywahy cause neither of them is gonna win.

Forget my tastes- (I don't really like any of these albums), but going by how the grammy people tend to vote I would say Green Day is going to win. RAy Charles' album wasn't given good reviews and I don't know if the fact that he died in the same year that an Oscar movie about him came out is enouigh for him to win. He'll probably win in other fields like pop album and gospel performance and I guess pop collab but I think Green Day is going to win best album. Kaynye West might only win in rap, Usher and Alicia will win a lot of r&b prizes the way Beyonce and Luther did last year.

I go for Green Day, for a number of reasons. The r&b fans are split 4 ways, so it shouldn't be too hard for the rock fans to give it to Green Day (similarly to how Celine Dion won "Album of the year" several years ago because rock fans were evenly split between Beck and Smashing Pumpkins, even tho both albums are deemed far superior to Falling Into You), plus from the looks of it, rock music is on the verge of making a comeback after being marginilized the last few years (even MTV-2 has apologized for playing too much hip hop and not enough rock the past 2-3 years) and Green Day winning could definately add fuel to that.

And above that, "American Idiot" is getting raves I really haven't seen any rock albums receive since Radiohead's "OK Computer", but unlike Radiohead, GD actually has more than a cult fanbase and even top 40 radio which shuns most rock will play them.

one thing I'd like to know is...

I haven't heard any of the albums (tho I wanna get around to hearing American Idiot), what is it about Kanye's album that attracts the reviews it has? Critics who hate rap music are giving his cd raves. I understood why they loved Outkast and Lauryn Hill so much, but from the singles I heard, Kanye didn't seem that standoutish to me. For those who've heard it, what is it about his album that really wins over people who don't even like hip hop music?
