Okay, so they wanted to celebrate a milestone anniversary, and 30 years is a nice round figure. But couldn't they fine a better way to do this than just make up a "birth date" to fit their 30th anniversary scheme? What I'm talking about was the segment of the 30th anniversary special when they were showing clips from the two pilot episodes. The first pilot is the one that was filmed in 1972 wound up being aired as a segment of LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE. The got the date on that one right. But the second one -- one that became the first episode of the series -- was filmed in 1973 and was first broadcast in January 1974 for the series premiere. But when they showed the clip from this episode, at the bottom of the screen, they had a date of January 1975! Okay, so that would make it 30 years from then until now. BUT IT'S NOT TRUE! If it was so important to have this special be exactly 30 years, they should have just not shown any date than just lie to us. That stinks!

ABC was just trying to re-write history.

I know that was stupid. They wanted to "pretend" this was the 30th anniversary I guess.

It's not as bad as other things they've done on the show: inverted Arnold's bathrooms... illogical house plan... impossible garage apartment where Fonzie lived...

Who knows, maybe it was just a mistake. Somehow I doubt it though, pretty easy to point that out.
It doesnt really matter though.

Its obvious to me that ABC did it on purpose. They wanted the audience to think the show began in jan 75 when it really began on jan 74. That makes 31 years. I guess the network figured 31 made less sense than 30

Maybe they didn't want anyone to mistake the show for Baskin-Robbin's Ice Cream Parlors!

Don't forget changing the house itself after the second season with no mention of them moving and the mysterious disappearance of Chuck - the eldest brother. Even in the final episode, Howard mentions having two wonderful children - WTF HAPPENED TO CHUCK?!?!?!
