I was thinking that it would be very funny if Woody or someone had kept in touch with Diane the six years she was gone.... but never mentioned anything about it to Sam or anyone else until the finale.

But what would Woody (or whoever) really learn about Diane that Sam didn't find out by the end of the finale? Pretty much all that would happen would be Sam getting pissed.

I'm still holding out hope that Diane fathered Sam's child after the finale.

I don't think Sam would get pissed. It would be more like Woody (or whoever, most likely Woody because he's suppossed to be slow) thinking "I thought everyone kept in touch her." And then the rest of the gang would just be shocked as hell.

Have it be a throw away line when Diane is on the TV....

Woody: "Ohh yeah, Miss Chambers mentioned this in her last letter."

Actually, I always thought it was odd that Sam himself and Diane just parted the way they did. They didn't part on bad terms, like many times before. When she went to Europe with Frasier, they were in contact all the time, until the whole propsal fiasco. But no, she walked out that door after they almost got married and they don't say a word until six years later.
