i'm getting a new TV sometime this month and I was weondering about this HDTV that is coming out in 2006,Will it make the TV reception more clearer and digital then the we have now,I talked with the saleman and hesaid that if we don't have the connection to the TV there's going to have a box that can hook up andcan get it,I think I am goingto get it at Sears (TV) It's a 35 inch sil ver TV, I think it's Samsung? Cna you tell me whats the difference between todays TVS and HDTV that is coming out in 2006? Thanks

The 2006 HDTV-only thing is COMPLETELY false unless the FCC is going to pay everyone to replace their regular analog TV's. Currently in 2005, HDTV's and even HD-upgradeables are quite expensive ($1,000+), and so are the turners (400+.)

Plus, HDTV is not even close in popularity and availability as analog. And the actual HDTV TV's themselves are quite limited. Most of the time you can only find them in LCD (Liquid Crystal Display,) plasma, or the big projection TV's, and in once in a while in regular tubes bigger than 27"- which defeat the entire purpose of having High Definiton.

Now here is the difference between HDTV and our regular (analog) TV's:

-Regular TV's receive signals in 480 interlaced lines of resolution. Not quite impressive-- in fact quite terrible.

EDTV- (a slightly less expensive and good, but not as good, HDTV alternative)- can receive signals in regular 480i (i=interlaced,) 480p (p=progressive,) 720i, and 720p lines of resolution.

HD-ready/HD Monitor/HD-Upgradeable- are basically TV's that can get each and every signal I mentioned above, along with the main one-- 1080i (high definition) but only if you have a seperate High Definition TUNER.

HDTV- they have everything you need. They are top of the line and can get both regular analog channels and off the air HDTV/Digital channels without anything extra.

The lines of resolution make a HUGE difference in the TV's picture quality. Next time you go to Sears, have the salesperson show you an HDTV signal AND a regular channel in the same TV. You will be amazed by the difference.

BTW, I think I know which Samsung you are referring to. To be honest with you, the TV is crap. If you want a better TV, go with their Sony, JVC or Toshiba HDTV's which they also carry. And if you have the extra money get away from regular tubes and go with a LCD or even a plasma.

Thats not true, but you will be able to buy a converter box for your analog TV. It will still be past 2007 before analog TV is totally gone. Most major cities already broadcast in HDTV including 3 here in the small market I live in of Youngstown. Most people will be getting their HDTV from cable or Satellite anyhow much as they get their analog TV now. I have a HDTV, its got a nice picture on HDTV programs, but I dont get the 2 networks I watch the most (CBS & FOX) so I dont watch it that much. I basically got it for the widescreen and watching DVD movies. HDTV today isnt really for everyone. But someday, and I suspect way past 2007, it will be. So basically HDTV channels and content are still very limited at this time.

NO... EDTV can receive up to 720p... HDTV is 1080i.

I read somewhere that it's not worth getting an HDTV if the service is not available in your area.I think that sucks (kinda) LOL
