View Full Version : Does anyone else HATE this?
Belair 02-04-2005, 03:57 PM Bad spelling and poor grammar online?
e.g todayiwent to the shoppingmall and bought anewtv.
No spacing Makes it very hard to read.
And spelling like this:
WAT-What
BAK-Back
REKON-Reckon
STIK-Stick
SUMFIN-Something
TRYNA-Trying
LYKE-Like (why not just put the I rather than the Y,geez!)
SUM1-Someone
PPL-People
SHUD-Should
I could go on forever,i know its shorthand or its "supposed" to be,but its just crappy,in my opinion.Half the time you can hardly decipher the message.
I also really hate it when people TyPe LiKe tHiS,BeCAusE iTs a HEaDAcHe tO rEaD.
Ok,just got that off my chest... ;)
dawsongirl 02-04-2005, 03:59 PM Yeah, but I just live with it.
Mijada 02-04-2005, 04:03 PM It gets annoying at times
Dutabi84 02-04-2005, 04:08 PM It's frustrating. It's a silly thing to let bother you, but it gets very excessive. "2morrow" is NOT a word...mumble..grumble...
KiesterBro 02-04-2005, 04:38 PM Boy Howdy, do I ever! Hey another pet peve is News Graphics that are mis-spelled...This Morning's pre-dawn news at WCSC-TV 5 had a graphic up about the items stolen from an unmarked police vehicle that included "40 Calibur Amunition"...yo, get a spell check on that Chyron, willya!!!
SBTB Geek 02-04-2005, 05:02 PM TRYNA is the only that really bothers me.
InspectorExstead 02-04-2005, 05:02 PM I'm one of those grammar freaks who stake out menus just to find mistakes (I know- I live in the wild zone). Grammar mistakes really bother me, both on-line and on paper. A type is one thing, but making up new words- that should not be allowed! And "ain't" is NOT a word in the English language (grr!).
dawsongirl 02-04-2005, 05:08 PM TRYNA is the only that really bothers me.
What does that mean?
InspectorExstead 02-04-2005, 05:11 PM What does that mean?
It means "trying." Apparently it's supposed to sound like "trying to." Who comes up with these?
Belair 02-04-2005, 05:11 PM TRYNA means 'trying to',not just trying.
e.g I'm Tryna figure out something.
x3 Taylor x3 02-04-2005, 05:14 PM Something really annoys me that some of my friends do is that they use "ur". It's supposed to mean "you are" right? I mean it's annoying enough when they say it when it actually sort of makes since like "ur smart" or something, but what really mad is when someone uses it like "Im coming over to ur house" which basically means you are house.... Wow, that was confusing.
Belair 02-04-2005, 05:54 PM Uh-Huh,i hate UR as well.

it's in the dictionary...
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 02-04-2005, 05:58 PM Hmm, I have some friends that talk like that on the computer. It's kind of annoying, but I don't say anything. I get all ******** with grammar CUZ ITZ FUN

Dude, I'm such a grammar Nazi. My parents always use the wrong contractions (ie: "That don't go there.") and double negatives...AND DON'T END A SENTENCE WITH THE WORD "AT." That drives me NUTS.
But I hate online when people use u, r, and numbers as words. Christ. Take the time to hit the two extra buttons.
Hollow 02-04-2005, 07:00 PM it doesn't bother me unless it's excessive enough to where it looks like a foreign language.
it REALLY bothers me though when people see someone say something like "hey how r u" and criticizing and making fun of them. you can be annoyed by it, but if you want to chat online, you're always going to see people use netspeak and you might as well not try to put any kind of stop to it. i'm sure some people talk to others who type like that a lot and just think it's normal.

Dude111 07-30-2023, 02:16 PM I dont care one way or another........ I can still read it.......
Caroline13 07-30-2023, 02:38 PM This issue is so minor in life, not the best but Hate??? I make more mistakes with spelling now in later life, because it's no big thing.
If I were putting out some thing more important, then care is taken and edits are done.
Yong Fang 08-06-2023, 06:39 AM This is just me but I hate when people make smaller non words out of words, spoken or written. Hearing someone “Taking their MEDS.” No, the word is medication. “I don’t need to consume so many CARBS.” Uh, too lazy to say carbohydrates? “App” I totally hate. I refuse to say or use “app”. The word is application. We have a language or we don’t. Simple as that.

Oh brother!!! This is America, just about anything goes here....get something important to discuss.. Time to eat my low carb break......
Dude111 08-06-2023, 05:35 PM Ya its no big deal Yong :)
Janice Johnson 08-10-2023, 09:36 PM It used to make my skin crawl when people would say,"What is you doing?" Instead of,"What are you doing?":rolleyes: Thank God people don't usually say,"What is you doing?" Nowadays. :D

Ok,just got that off my chest... ;)
I don't really GAF, online talk is just VERY INFORMAL laid back talk, people are typing fast, etc.... I'd be ok with a standard "short-hand" way of typing to type faster.... If this was an English composition, it would be different.
Just like casual speak among friends... Formally you might say, "You are not taking my car", but informally to your friend, you might just say, "Y'ain't gettin' my car!"
Michael Smith 08-11-2023, 06:02 AM Sometimes, when I'm communicating with my foreign friends, I have to write more grammatically correct.
biffbronson 08-11-2023, 07:04 AM There's a nitwit who's frequently competing with me on eBay auction bidding from the same seller's stuff, and he always writes "TY !" for "Thank You!" when he gives his feedback (on the auctions he beat me out on). For some reason it drives me batty!!
For some time I hadn't even known what that stood for.
Caroline13 08-12-2023, 02:43 PM sounds like to me, too many getting flustered with words, don't get a stroke over them.

Are you taking your own advice to avoid having a stroke, or is it for the benefit of us "sheep" only?
Here is what you stated some time back:
What really irritates me is when people say I can't live without this or that....you need to mention air as the main Need
