I cannot find anywhere what the "T" in Earnest T. Bass stands for. Can someone help with this?

I read somewhere that the writers just added the 'T' because it made the name sound funny so it doesn't stand for anything.

Ernest T. Bass has got to be one of the funniest characters in all of television. Truly classic. Barney and Ernest T. Bass are two phenominal characters from the Andy Griffith Show.

T is for "tetched" in the head.

The great Howard Morris played Ernest T. Bass.
Loved him in "High Anxiety" and "History of the World Part I."
