Classic album. I think this was his last good album. I like the songs Stop To Love, So Amazing, Give Me The Reason(i love this song to death), There's Nothing Better Than Love with Gregory Hines(Gregory surprised me with his singin. He did a good job on this track & i love this song a lot also.), I Really Didn't Mean It, Because It's Really Love, Anyone Who Had A Heart.

Quite a few good songs on this one. I never listened to the whole album but all 5 singles were nice. So Amazing was the last single, but had it come out earlier it would have been a bigger hit. The title song was a deliberate attempt to cross over and go higher on the charts but it didn't work, though it did do well on the black chart and earn him the first of what I believe were 8 grammy nominations as a composer. The second single Stop to Love did do better on the charts than his singles normally would at that point in his career (it was Billboard's top soul single of 1987 and the only time any of his singles made the year end r&b top 15) plus it was his first top 20 on the weekly hot 100 and the first time he hit the easy listening top 10 by himself. The Gregory Hines duet was interesting. I remember it being a hit around Mother's Day in 1987. Also this album was during the slender period (or one of the slender periods in his career). I remember being surprised at how svelte he looked in the Stop to Love video.

Give Me The Reason song is also on Ruthless People soundtrack. Ruthless People movie is very funny. It starred Danny Devito, Bette Midler, Judge Reinhold.

Oh, Luther. :(
Listening to "There's Nothing Better Than Love" is so sad, knowing both Gregory Hines and Luther have passed. *sigh*
Anyhoo, words fail me as to the reason why "So Amazing" flopped so badly as a single. It only went to #94 on the R&B chart, and didn't chart on the Hot 100. As long as Luther fans know that this is a favorite is all that matters anyway.

I love that song "There's Nothing Better Than Love" with Gregory Hines. "Give Me the Reason" was the best album ever by the late Luther Vandross. I also have the self-titled Gregory Hines album on vinyl. Back in 1988, Luther Vandross produced that album for him. This was his only album ever. Gregory sang a few cuts from the album and that was it. Gregory went back to do some acting in movies or possibly musicals after the self-titled album was released. Luther and Gregory both RIP:(

The low ranking was because it was the 5th single from that album. The other singles all went top 10 (though none were top pop hits- their loss), with Stop to Love being the top Billboard r&b single of 1987 (the only time any of his singles made the year end top 10 on any Billboard chart and at #14 pop and top 10 adult contemporary it was his biggest solo hit up to that point). Give Me the Reason was a pretty good album. It was the 2nd biggest r&b chart album of 1987. So Amazing's rather low ranking is irrelevant in the long run because it is better remembered than I Really Didn't Mean it which was a top ten hit. A House is Not A Home never appeared on any chart but is one of his best remembered songs, so just going by chart statistics doesn't do the popularity of these songs justice.
