View Full Version : DVD Release?
Kristen 02-01-2005, 01:43 AM I just got an email from TVShowsonDVD.com about a TMTMS DVD release, but there's hardly any info, such as what eps it is, or anything. Here's the link: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releaseinfo.cfm?ReleaseID=4519 Pav, do you happen to know anything about this?
I'm trying not to get my hopes up here b/c it doesn't look like much, but then, it's something!
Thanks,
Kristen

Kristen, I got this "announcement" also. They are calling it a "starter set". What on earth is a starter set!!!!!????? I had my hopes up for an announcement that season 2 is being released. This is a waste of time and money. I think anything short of season 2 is an insult to all of MTM's fans that have been waiting so long.

Pavan 02-01-2005, 10:08 AM I believe it is one episode from season one, along with some other past 20th Century releases.

ThomasE 02-01-2005, 01:30 PM I got all excited because I thought that there was going to be a season two as well but realized it could be something a little different and I was right, "A starter set". What a pity! Don't get me wrong, I am glad to have something released from MTM but I was hoping for a second season.
Larry Surrell 02-01-2005, 08:53 PM The only season 1 episode I want is an unedited version of "Christmas and the Hard Luck Kid", which I know won't happen.
Kristen 02-07-2005, 11:50 AM I just saw the cover art for this release. I'm hoping this is a sign Fox hasn't forgotten the series, and if this does well, we may still get season 2!
Lolac 02-07-2005, 12:22 PM It looks like they are trying to jump-start season 1 to see if there is any interest in season 2. I just want season 2. I already have season 1.

likewow 02-08-2005, 10:42 PM This doesn't make any sense! If season one didn't sell well, they should be putting some season two episodes out as a tease. That way they'd know if there's any interest in another season. Putting out episodes of a season that already exists won't generate any interest!

I think what they're trying to do is go after people who wanted season 1, but were put off by the price. And younger people who aren't as familiar with the show. Since this set is so cheap, they'll be more inclined to give the show a chance. I think you have to see TMTMS from the beginning to really get it.
JaneTVFan 02-12-2005, 03:51 AM Perhaps the reason season one didn't sell is there are lots of people like me. I hate season one. When TMTMS was on Nick at Nite, whenever the opening credits started with "How will you make it on your own?" I would always immediately turn the channel. If they began with "Who can turn the world on with her smile?" I'd always watch. I love the show from the second season on (really, the third season on) and I've been eager to buy DVDs of the series final six seasons. I remember when the release of the first season came out, I was anticipating the subsequent release of the second and following seasons. I was going to buy them all. But I wasn't going to spend one penny on the first season.
likewow 02-12-2005, 05:22 PM Yup, could be lots of people like you who feel the show really found its groove in the second season. The first one had a different feel to it, for sure.
I suspect the DVD set didn't sell too well because many of those first season shows were previously released on VHS. I got all mine at Wal-Mart and they're proudly displayed on my video shelves.
But if Fox had gone ahead with the release of season two I bet they would've been pleasantly surprised at the sales.
Guess we'll never know :(
Pavan 02-22-2005, 02:48 PM A little birdie tells me Season 2 is in the works! Maybe a summer release? Could be! Stay tuned for updates from tvshowsondvd.com ... for now keep quiet! ;)
