Does anyone know why the theme song was changed from the first to the second season? I do know that the opening sequence was changed quite a bit to not show Mary's wearing fur, but why was the theme song changed as well?

I think they changed it because the lyrics from the first season didn't really fit anymore. I mean, Mary already was making it on her own by then. She became a lot more confident after the first season, and the theme song kind of reflects that.

Exactly. The original concept of the show was that it would focus on the problems of a single woman making it on her own. But as the show went on, it became clear that that was only part of what the show was about; mostly the show was just about Mary and her relationships with her friends and co-workers. And so the original lyrics didn't really fit because they talked about her being "alone" when in fact she wasn't. So the lyrics changed to make it a more upbeat song about how everybody loves Mary and how she's definitely gonna make it after all (as opposed to "you just might make it after all").
