I like Joe and Helen much better as a couple than I do Sam and Diane from Cheers. I think they are more likable as people and more believable as a couple. I never could figure out what Sam and Diane saw in each other. IMHO, both were too much in love with themselves. I didn't find them funny or appealing together.

Joe and Helen, on the other hand, truly love each other and they actually LIKE each other. They have a lot in common. They enjoy each other's company, both in and out of the bedroom. Sam and Diane were really just about the physical attraction. They had absolutely nothing in common.

Sort of like Brian and Casey. Two completely self-absorbed people in it just for the physical aspects of a relationship. With Joe and Helen there's much more.

I agree....I've always thought that Sam and Diane were much more like Brian and Casey than Joe and Helen. Joe and Helen had those tender, loving moments that "Wings" fans seem to like so much....but Sam and Diane had the kind of "raw animal lust" that Brian and Casey had...and not much else.

Sam and Diane were funnier together, and thats all that matters.

Brian and Casey put up a good fight though, but Joe and Helen were just too happy to be very funny. Plus, Helen got on my nerves.

Kelly nailed it, Sam and Diane lived off of their physical connection to each other. Even when together, all they did was prod each other with insults. Joe and Helen never did that. Plus, I never liked Diane as a character, completely hoity-toity and spoke like a thesaurus.

Though Helen could be a firecracker, she and Joe had a thing where they had a good amount in common got excited about the same things. When they found the Tuckers, buying their new house, getting married. They both took a sort of pride in it all. Sam always had doubts about marrying Diane and she was always absorbed in her quest to be a writer.

I couldn't stand Diane either. She was such an arrogant snob. Casey was pretty snobby too, but I always got the feeling it was mostly from insecurity. I got the impression that Diane truly believed she was better than anyone else at the Cheers bar. I never could figure out what Sam saw in her, other than her looks.

Exactly, thankfully Casey was lightened up after the first few episodes. She was a Diane clone, and I wasn't up for that. Giving her a wild side---her trysts with Brian---was something Diane never had or would've done. And it's true about Casey's insecurities, she always tried too hard with her dates, and had trouble finding a job that suited her.

Joe and Helen, hands down.
