Hi guys,
Just a quickie. I always wondered why a guy like Dave didn't seem to have any friends. Try as I might I just can not seem to recall any friends of his in the show. Could have been cool to see what kind of friends he had. What gives?

Not only David, Maddie also didn't seem to have any friends.

Someone said this at DavidandMaddie.com:

Ever notice how in the first seasons, you sat there wondering, "How could these 2 people not have significant others in their life? They're attractive and wonderful people." And then in the later seasons, you were
like, "Who would ever want to deal with these people?"

The only time I remember either of them having friends is when David goes back home for his brother in law's funeral in Big Man on Mulberry Street. He's sitting drinking with people he's obviously known since he was a kid. Him being Top Cat etc! ;) I always assumed that whenever David came back from a wild weekend or something that he was with a group of friends, but he just didn't talk about them!

I'm sure I remember in a later episode that both David and Maddie admit that they each other are the closest person they've got in California.

I never remember Maddie having any friends, not even childhood ones, unless you count Sam of course... And, she did have a dog as a child that got 'squished' tho!!!

Isn't that odd? They didn't mention friends.
David would party or barhop, but I can't remember him ever saying that he went with anyone.

Maybe he went with Brown. :D

I think both David and Maddie were basically lonely people who kept others at a distance. We know David had been hurt before, and I think Maddie probably felt like men treated her like an object when she was a model. It was probably a defense mechanism for both of them to keep from being hurt.

I believe that you are correct, there is no other explanation for two such great people to be on their own. It also shows just how "big" their coming together is
