I got to wondering..does anyone know why the episode where Jim Backus plays a cheating husband is named "The Beard"? Maybe I missed a reference to a beard on the show; I sure don't remember it...

Jim Backus plays a character who cheats on his wife by taking his girlfriend dancing every tuesday night. He always tells his wife that he is at Ed Brown's Garage with his singing group practicing. When his wife calls and checks on him Ed or Louie plays a recorder with the Jim and others singing in the back ground. I love that episode. Especially when Chico says "Don't be coy" in a sassy yet sexy way

A "beard" is a person used by another to hide something (figuratively). For example, when a man who has not told his parents that he is gay dates women, the women are "beards". Ed was the "beard" for Jim Backus' character to hide his infidelity, by means of Ed taking the wife's calls and lying for him.
