Man hung on to to stolen car at 80mph

A US man held on to the back of his sports car and rang police as a thief drove off at speeds of up to 80mph.

Tony Young managed to call 911 on his mobile phone as his Ford Mustang Coupe sped through Flint, Michigan.

He said he was determined to hang on to his beloved car as it had been stolen before but admitted he thought he was a 'goner'.

Mr Young, 35, of Swartz Creek, told the Flint Journal: "I wasn't letting it go again. That car's my pride and joy."

The car was stolen from his home after a woman took his keys but Mr Young got a friend to give him a lift and soon spotted the car at a stop sign.

He challenged the driver but the car sped off. Mr Young jumped on the back of the car and managed to grab hold of the rear spoiler.

As the car went faster and faster and swerved back and forth, Young hung on and gave police a running commentary.

At one stage, he was hanging on to the back of the car and skiing with his feet on the snowy road. He says he thought he was going to die when the car turned on to a motorway.

The chase finally ended when the thief stopped the car and fled on foot. He was caught by police about 10 minutes.

Amazingly, Mr Young was unhurt - despite the fact that he recently had back surgery and is on sick leave from work.

I assume these are all leaked builds, right? I'm so tempted to download them. :p ;)

Of course, all my windows installations are 100% on-the-level. ;)

BTW, I ended up getting Mandrake 10 since that's what I used before and since Red Hat no longer makes an end-user Linux ( ). In fact, they will discontinue support for RH9 very soon. Now to install it...........

most likely it wont have the BIG features of LH in it, just the flashy GUI

(thats why I got RedHat so cheap)

Actually, I read that the leaked builds don't have the Aqua interface because at this point all the seperate features haven't been completely meshed. In fact, the screenshots I've seen look like XP with a sidebar and IE 7.

Cheap is good. I got Mandrake for free. :D

Banky Edwards: Alright, now see this? This is a four-way road, OK? And dead in the center is a crisp, new, hundred dollar bill. Now, at the end of each of these streets are four people, OK? Are you following?
Holden: Yeah.
Banky Edwards: Good. Over here, we have a male-affectionate, easy to get along with, non-political agenda lesbian. Down here, we have a man-hating, angry as ****, agenda of rage, bitter dyke. Over here, we got Santa Claus, and up here the Easter Bunny. Which one is going to get to the hundred dollar bill first?
Holden: What is this supposed to prove?
Banky Edwards: No, I'm serious. This is a serious exercise. It's like an SAT question. Which one is going to get to the hundred dollar bill first? The male-friendly lesbian, the man-hating dyke, Santa Claus, or the Easter bunny?
Holden: The man-hating dyke.
Banky Edwards: Good. Why?
Holden: I don't know.
Banky Edwards: Because the other three are figments of your ****ing imagination!

I know, but I'm still having trouble figuring out how to install the Flash plugin.

............it's the unix-like command prompt that bugs me.

The KDE 3 gui that came with Mandrake 10 is very nice, though. I dare say on par with 2000/MacOS9 eye-candy wise.

Came with some useful apps, too. (OpenOffice, GIMP, KMail, ect)

Install was very easy, so painless that I probably didn't learn anything from it. That was the easiest O/S install since DOS. Stick the disk in and follow the instructions. You almost can't screw it up.

Actually, yes, it's snowing right now. Not much accumulation, just a slight dusting.

But when you have nearly a 15 inches with 3-4 foot high drifts and snowbanks it gets annoying trying to walk around or even drive. The city has done absolutely nothing to clean out the snow on the streets and nobody shovels their sidewalks. The streets still have like 3 or 4 inches packed on them.

Here's an interesting little tidbit dated the 5th.

Other browsers are making market share gains. When does this become a problem or an issue for you guys?
Well, people get confused about browsers. You can have as many browsers as you want on your PC, just like you can have tons of music players and things like that.
As RSS has gotten more sophisticated and value-added search capabilities have come along, this thing is really maturing.

So when people say Firefox is being downloaded onto people's systems, that's true, but IE is also on those systems. Firefox is new, and people are trying it out. There's a certain percentage of people who do that--it's very easy to download.

We need to keep IE the best. We need to innovate in IE, do more add-ons, do improvements. We have some very exciting plans there. Some percentage of users are going to try Firefox and IE side by side, and use the one that's best.

So no big problem; it's not that people have stopped using IE, it's just we've got lots of good ideas that can match and move ahead.

In terms of our agility to do things on the browser, people who underestimated us there in the past lived to regret that. <---must have been nestcape???

But some people have left because of security issues.
Well, no one invests more in security of their browser than what we do on IE. The key message we have for people is they should turn on auto update because if you turn on auto update, without you having to think about it and go through a bunch of user interface or know about this or that or the other thing, you can know that there are hundreds of very smart people who are constantly improving your browser and making sure that you're safe. And so with auto update and IE, you're getting the top security team and the quickest response team that there is anywhere.

Now onto the Google question. Why do you want to compete, or does Microsoft want to compete against them? Does Microsoft want to build up MSN to be a general search engine?
Absolutely. We've been in the search business even before Google was around. The commitment we made is to build unique search technology across the board. And if you look at the Microsoft Research things that we've had breakthroughs in--natural language, document analysis, personalization, image analysis, language translation--our research agenda will allow us to take today's search from ourselves and Google, and make what we have today look like a joke. And a lot of that will be built into applications like Office or the Windows shell. I see our desktop search offering--I think every review I've seen has rated it far better than what Google is coming out with.
I've toyed with doing a blog myself, but I don't want to be one of those people who start and then don't finish it, and again I'm thinking maybe I could do one a month or one every six weeks--something like that.

When you get to Longhorn, it will even have deeper integration, and we'll have the same index format. So anybody who wants a smooth transition to Longhorn where you don't have dual indexers and everything--the commitment we're making at our desktop search is that same indexing, same format, and we'll make that very smooth for people.

So we want to compete on the desktop because that's a key innovation area for Windows. We want to compete in the cloud because we think the competition between ourselves and Google and Yahoo will improve things.

If we thought somebody was doing the best possible job that could ever be done in search and there wasn't some big revenue out there, maybe we wouldn't do it, but quite to the contrary. Whether it's understanding maps or virtual worlds or document analysis, today's search is nothing, and we've got the software technology that will drive it to those new levels, as well as being a very significant business.

robyrob
01-25-2005, 09:03 PM

He does. He told me it was his favorite browser.

WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

.....and on that note, I shall eat.
Definetly not my favorite browser. I use it because its what I've always used and ive come to bear with it's annoyingness.

LOL WHAT THE HECK?

I was just watching the Weather Channel, Jim Cantore was describing the next storm thats about to hit Boston and the title above the pic said "Hit Me Baby One More Time" he read it and then he asked Jennifer who did the song and she said Britney Spears, then Jim said "Yeah...What can I say? She's awesome." and people in the studio started laughing. I dunno if he was talking about Jennifer or Britney Spears, but it was hilarious anyways. :rotflmao:

Then it showed above a picture of an Ice Storm "Ice Ice Maybe" and he mentioned Vanilla Ice.

Just the fact they were using those songs to describe Winter Storms is hilarious enough, but Jim Cantore talking about them takes the cake.

I wish I had a new digital camera. :(

I actually have one, its like 3-4 years old. It didnt take good pictures in the first place and now everything is just a big blur. I took pictures of my street buried in snow the other morning after it fell...But they didnt come out well.

Jynx is a silly cat - all he does is do somersaults and whine and sit on my shoulder and do my taxes, and get his butt smacked(dont know why he likes that so much)
