View Full Version : Oprah Winfrey Presents: Their Eyes Were Watching God -- 1 Wk after the Academy Awards
Pavan 01-22-2005, 04:28 PM Catch Halle Berry in Oprah Winfrey Presents: Their Eyes Were Watching God a week after the Academy Awards on ABC:
"Oprah Winfrey Presents: Their Eyes Were Watching God," an adaptation of Zora Neale Hurston's literary classic starring Academy Award--winning actress Halle Berry, will air as an "ABC Premiere Event," SUNDAY, MARCH 6 (9:00-11:30 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Based on the classic by Harlem Renaissance author Zora Neale Hurston, the film depicts the timeless, lyrical and passionate story of a beautiful and resilient woman's quest for love, sensual excitement and spiritual fulfillment, despite society's expectations of a woman of color in 1920s America. Ms. Berry stars as Janie Crawford, whose journey takes her through three marriages with very different men, and during which she experiences all that life has to offer, from tremendous success to unspeakable heartbreak.

Brian 01-22-2005, 08:17 PM I read the novel in a college English course. I imagined Halle playing Janie if it were to be made into a movie. I'll have to see how it turns out.
Pavan 01-22-2005, 08:46 PM I've heard good reviews for it already. ABC has had already success with a "god" type movie (10 People You Meet in Heaven), I expect this one to be even higher.

Can't stand Oprah

I like Oprah but she gets on my nerves sometimes. Especially when she's yelling on her show and making a big deal about what she's doing, and the audience(of mainly women) are screaming at the top of their lungs--well, more like screeching), especially when she's giving away stuff. Yeah, I'd be excited, too, but it's way over the top. I saw a skit on SNL recently, the one where Megan Mullully(sp?)was hosting, and Mya Rudolph was playing Oprah. They were paroding exactly what I'm talking about and the audience in the skit was screaming, too, but they were really going a little too far. It was hilarious!!

Don't expect many new episodes in March and April. That is rerun season.

Pavan 03-07-2005, 11:34 AM Early Ratings Report shows huge numbers in the overnights for this movie. Nielsen Fat Nationals to come. Here is the overnights info:
Led by a whopping 17.6/27 in the overnights for made-for Oprah Winfrey Presents: Their Eyes Were Watching God from 9-11 p.m., even the absence of Desperate Housewives did not negatively impact ABC. Comparatively, ABC bested second-place CBS by a significant 52 percent in rating and seven share points in the metered markets. Also of positive note for ABC was Extreme Makeover: Home Edition at a first-place 11.1/16 in the overnights (tied with CBS' Cold Case) from 8-9 p.m.
Pavan 03-07-2005, 12:52 PM Fast Nationals released:
16.2/25 total average. 9-10pm 16.4/24; 10-11pm 16.0/26
Dominant!
Dean Winchester 03-07-2005, 01:21 PM I was disapointed, the movie seemed like a bastard stepchild mixture of Oprah's three GOOD movies, Color Purple, Brewster Place and Beloved. I like Halle Berry and I like Oprah, but I just didn't warm up to this movie. This was obviously Halle's bid at an Emmy, you'd never see her playing in a Lifetime tv movie.
dlemond 03-07-2005, 01:24 PM I don't like Oprah, and I resent her thinking she is an authority on literature, just because she has enough money to stick her name on novels.
Let me tell you, if I stuck my name on novels, they would blow away her trite sentimental crap.

well, I do like the fact that Oprah has the power to actually cause people to read. But I think she gets too deep into it.
I admire Oprah Winfrey, I think she's the ultimate survivor. But... I don't think anyone deserves the power that she has. If Oprah ran for President, she'd probably win (I know some Democrat celebrity said that she was "their Arnold"). Hell, if Oprah decided she wanted to be ruler of the world, she most likely would get her way. But, why does she have this power, that's what I wanna know
*MIBabe03* 03-07-2005, 06:19 PM I haven't seen it and I don't want to. That movie is taking the place of Desperate Housewives. Freaking Oprah.
Brent88 03-07-2005, 06:27 PM My grandparents watched it and said it "sucked"(several times). They said it focused way too much on Sex. Imagine that.

well, Halle is considered one of the sexiest women alive, I think more people would tune in to see sex scenes with her than if it was starring Oprah herself
MissZero 03-07-2005, 10:28 PM does anyone know if it will encore or come out on video?
Karen* 03-08-2005, 12:57 AM I wanted to watch it because I read the book this year in English class and I liked it, but I skipped out to watch Full House reruns.
isiahthomas 03-12-2005, 12:28 PM I saw the movie & i liked it. One thing i admire about Halle Berry is that she doesn't mind being in a movie without makeup on. She still looks good without makeup. I was watchin a rerun of Oprah's show yesterday & she had Will Smith & Eva Mendes on there talkin about Hitch movie. Will asked Oprah how come she doesn't have any kids yet. Oprah didn't say anything. So Will leaned over to her & he kissed her. The crowd said wooooo. So Will winked at her & said call me LOL. Oprah said thank you Jada.
