Police Probe Allegation Against Bill Cosby
Jan 21, 8:28 AM EST

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - A female acquaintance of comedian Bill Cosby has made an allegation against him that has prompted a police investigation in Pennsylvania, the entertainer's attorney said Thursday.

Attorney Walter Phillips said he spoke Thursday with authorities in Pennsylvania who told him they have begun an investigation. He would not discuss the specifics of the allegation — which he called "utterly preposterous" — but said it amounts to, at the most, "inappropriate touching."

No charges have been brought against Cosby.

Phillips said the accuser, who lives in Canada, knows Cosby and the alleged incident in question happened about a year ago.

Police in Cheltenham Township, Pa., a Philadelphia suburb where Cosby has a home, declined to comment.

"I know the person making the accusation hasn't been contacted by authorities," Phillips said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press from his office in Philadelphia. "We are hopeful and optimistic that no charges will be brought forward."

Dave Selby, a spokesman with the Durham Regional Police in Durham, Ontario, said police had passed on allegations from a woman there to authorities in Pennsylvania but declined to confirm whether they involved Cosby.

Cosby postponed a town hall meeting in Cleveland on Thursday and has postponed three upcoming shows in Florida, his publicist David Brokaw said. Brokaw would not say whether the postponements have anything to do with the recent allegation.

I don't believe it at all, not for a second. People are always trying to take advantage of this man it's sick @@ all they want is money and the fame.

I don't think Bill Cosby did it at all.

Back in 1997 some woman was saying that she was his illegitimate daughter. Was trying to get some money but it was proven a false claim as I am sure this one is!

Who knows?... Maybe it is true-- people like Bill Cosby always strike me as being quite secretive and odd. Look at Bill O'Reilly... you didn't expect that from him.

I like the picture that accompanied the article on Yahoo - seems appropriate for an 'inappropriate touching' allegation, with Cosby's hand coming at you in 3-D.

Cosby is getting so screwed by people. I mean he lost his son to murder, some woman said he was her father and he wasn't, and now this. Leave the guy alone.

I agree with SBTB Geek. You never know, he could have done something.

I don't believe this at all. If he did this then he probably did it before and nobody heard anything before now.

Why do these people who claim this kind of crap always wait a year or more? Morons.

But then what made her wait so damn long? She needed a whole year to concoct a story?

Maybe he did, but she should have sued or whatever a hell of a lot sooner than now.

Exactly. That's just stupid.

I don't believe it. First, because it's Bill Cosby. My Bill Cosby would never do something like that. Second, why exactly did she wait a year? If something like that happened to me, (by the way, can someone define "inappropriate touching" to me? Brushing shoulders in the hallway?) I'd tell the police, or someone, immediately. It's going to be pretty hard for her to win this...how do you prove something like this?

I didn't even have to read the story-haven't we heard it all before, some woman trying to sue a male star for sexual harassment. How many times has it been done!

I don't believe this, either. The same thing happened after his son was killed, wasn't there a woman in his past who tried to sue him for back support for a brief affair she had with him decades before?

His son was murdered? That's horrible. :( Man these people who make allegations like that piss me off. Anything for your money or 15 minutes of fame huh?

He got a flat tire, and was shot to death in an apparent robbery while fixing it. Terribly wrong place at the wrong time. I believe his name was Ennis. It was so very sad. He was Cosby's only son. The character of Theo on The Cosby Show was based on him.

That's it. I knew it had something to do with a car.
