Jean wanted to move on and spend more time with her family (Her husband and son) and do other things with her career. in 2000 she won an emmy for guest starring on fraiser and she won another emmy in 2001 for fraiser

I remember when all the cast changes were going on that the producers said they hoped Jean would appear occasionally as a guest star. And she did appear in the first episode of the sixth season, but never came back again. Too bad. Everyone says what a big loss Delta Burke was (which I agree with), but they tend to overlook that the show lost a lot of warmth when Jean/Charlene left.

I am so glad someone finally gave Jean the credit she deserves.
Shes' a great actress and a wonderful person.
Did you know that she donated a valuable watch that belonged to her fo the Red Cross September 11th fund?
Now,that is classy.

Jean is unbelievable. I saw that watch, and I just thought it was so sweet! Has anyone ever seen "Guinevere"? Jean Smart plays the mother in it, and it's just the most amazing acting I've ever seen in my life. I'm not exaggerating at all. I mean, Annie is my real fave, but I saw "Guinevere" when I had run out of Annie movies to watch! LoL...Seriously, Jean just blows everybody in that movie away. She is definitely not reprising her Charlene role in it though! She's like "f*** this family" and then gives the coldest, most evil monologue I've ever heard to, and I quote, a man who's "older than me, and f***ing my 21 year old daughter". It was incredible!!

Love Liz

I really think all the original 5 of them made the storyline..... It was like cutting a leg off a table when one of them left....and It really ruined the shows plot....But they did replace them with an ok cast... *shrugs*

I love Jean, she's my favorite...i wish she wouldnt have left. IMO, the show just went downhill when she and Delta left the show.

I seem to recall that, during the original run, when Jean left, the episode was a two-parter (explaining the visit to the Queen, etc.). However, that second part NEVER airs on Lifetime. In fact, they skip over that episode in the guide on their website...

So, what was the reasoning??? Does anyone else know what I'm talking about here??

That episode is really not a good final episode for Charlene either. Very weak. They briefly mention she's going to meet the Queen but the rest of the episode focused on Allison. I was expecting her swan song to be something more. A final scene with Mary Jo or something. And I thought that both parts of that ep did air on Lifetime. At least, I know I've seen it on Lifetime before.

Allison was a loser. She all showed up and thought she owned the place.

Jean is a semi-regular on "The District" playing Craig T Nelson's ex-wife
She was in a Lifetime movie about former FBI agent Candice DeLong

Still, though... no one knows about this second episode??

I've already responded to this question. Yes they air the second part of this episode, entitled "The Big Desk part 2" on Lifetime, or they use to. I've seen it on Lifetime several times. The very last scene is Allison shooting a watergun at Julia, Mary Jo, Charlene, Carlene, and Anthony. They all run to hide behind Charlene/Carlene's desk. This is the final appearance of Jean Smart.

I guess I have never seen that episode. Sorry I misunderstood...

I'm still wondering why Lifetime skips over it in their episode guide...

Oh that's OK!Like the poster above said, the probably just list it as one episode. It's not that great an ep anyway. Esp if you are a fan of Charlene. It's such a weak sendoff to someone who was on the show for 5 years!
