On episode 1, does the sound drop a bit when Alex's daughter says, "you remember something that happened 15 years ago"?

It was pretty noticeable to me, I just want to make sure that it is not a defect of my DVD.

Yes it seems to drop out a little at the point when she says 15 years ago,
you can be sure its not your dvd.
