That sickens me. I hate hearing stories about how animals aren't taken care of. I'm sure her intentions started out good, taking in all those cats that were probably homeless, but she should have gotten in touch with the ASPCA. They would've come and gotten the cats.

I'm guessing you really don't like cats. But that does NOT mean they don't care about starving children.

I didn't actually read the article since it didn't work for me, but I know about it's about and that's horrible! NO cat deserves to be neglected like that!

I'm just sayin we need to take of ourselves first. Cats are not people, cats are not going to change the world, cats aren't going to find a cure for cancer, etc. All animals (including ourselves) were created with the ability to take of themselves as a kind.

Don't get me wrong I love my dog but I just am realistic enough to realize that we need to worry about ourselves first.

Oh yeah let's ignore the animals, let them be abused and what not, who cares? That's the problem with this world people don't want to get involved. Abuse is still abuse whether it's animals or people.

No one said that they didn't care about people, it is possible to care about both.

Watch an episode of Animal Planet's animal cops sometime and tell me if you still feel the same way when you see how some animals are treated by people. Breaks my heart, I can't watch the show without bawling.

There are also tons of programs out there to help children and people, you don't see that many for animals, which is sad IMO.

I'm not saying it's right to abuse animals im sayin that we need to take of ourselves before we even worry about that ****. yeah, animal abusers are low-life scum but damn I'm not gonna obsess about it like the other percent of the population. I own a husky and she hates being inside in the winter so we leave her out. Well, some biotch had the nerve to call the ****in cops on us because the dog was layin out in the snow. So the cop came and rolled his eyes and apologized to US.

I also hate how the only thing people give a damn about is cats and dogs and ****. Honestly, When was the last time y'all ate meat? Theres thousands of other animals in this world that get slaughtered everyday FOR OUR OWN WELL BEING, but lets stop the world for 63 cats. It's all an overexaggeration on our part.

1) Sure. Cats are not people, they cannot change the world, will not concoct a cure for cancer, nor will dogs; but over the past 2-3,000 years, we have domesticated these animals from the wild and they have become a HUGE part of people's lives and society today. These animals are part of our families. We have a right to be concerned.

2) Just because people are worried and concerned over animals doesn't mean that we aren't worrying about ourselves! If we only worried about ourselves all of the time, then damn, we'd be some pretty cormorant people. I'm not saying you have to have the most perfervid attitude towards animals, but really. Try to see my point of view here.

3) Don't chastise people who are concerned about other issues than you. Half of the people at school care about extremely different current issues than I. Do I give a flying **** about these issues? No! But I'm not going to go around saying "well Jesus Christ guys, what about the children!". There are people who care about homeless and less fortunate people in this world, believe it or not. Just because we care about animals as well, does not mean we don't care about the children.

Points well taken. Just wondering, if this story had been about chickens or cows would you still feel the same way? Do you think it would have made national news? Does anyone else think it's ridiculous to throw a 71 year old women in jail for this?

I don't care if the animals in the back of the truck were cats, ducks or chimps. I don't like when anyone mistreats ANY animal. No, I don't think it would have made national news if the animals were of a different breed. Most normal people don't keep cows inside of their houses. Cows are breeded for the main purpose of milk and slaughter. We don't eat cats or dogs.

No, I don't think it's ridiculous that she's charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.. that woman knew what she was doing, and that was mistreating animals. I hate when people pull the 'pity me, I'm old' act. Next thing you know, she'll be pleading insanity in court. What's next, the Twinkie Defense? Really. If you're going to commit a crime, then be prepared to face the charges.

Like Karly said, she knew what she was doing. A person's age cannot excuse his or her actions for a crime unless the individual can prove that he or she didn't know right from wrong and by now she should know that considering she's been around for 71 years. I don't care if she's 71, 81, or 91, she committed a crime and she should be held responsible and punished. You can't justify animal abuse or abuse of any kind for that matter.

I don't remember what show this is but there was one with the following lyric in the theme.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

I could never really understand why so many elderly women have this thing for cats! It seems that most of these cases involve older women with a houseful of cats! Why have so many if they cannot care for them? I don't get it! I am not a cat lover but I do feel sorry for any animal being abused. :(

My husband had this elderly aunt that had a houseful of cats, dogs, and monkeys. The place smelled like a zoo! She wanted us to stay for dinner one time and I told my husband "No way" Who knows what had been crawling around that kitchen of hers! What is it with these old women anyway?

I guess if you feel that strongly about it I shouldn't try to foce my opinion upon anyone else. I still don't think that if you care so much you can downplay the slaughter of cows and chickens because there not household pets. I don't understand the logic behind the "we don't eat cats or dogs" statement.

And maybe you're right about the jail thing but I honestly think that prison time is a little harsh. People get off with murdr everyday because we'd rather put a 71 year old woman in jail for "animal cruelty"

I'm sorry to anyone I may have offended I just really enjoy me a nice piece of debate pie lol

MissZero, I think you and Kay Scarpetta should stop fighting and handle your
differences in a better, christian way.
I'm getting really sick of you telling everyone to follow christianity. if someone isn't a christian you have no right to try to shove your own beliefs down their throat. and you've been warned more than once to stop bringing religion into everything.

webwarrior, I am also a Christian... BUT, I also have respect for people who are not Christians or have a different religion. I've come to realize that people have different beliefs and that's fine with me. As long as I have my own religion I am just fine.

Like if I don't like some person of another religion trying to preach to me, why would someone else like it when I do it to them? I'm not saying it's totally impossible to convert someone, but everyone has a right to whatever religion they want. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I'm just saying what I personally believe.

Well, I've been sitting here reading this entire thread and I can't help but come back to this quote: "Honestly, When was the last time y'all ate meat? Theres thousands of other animals in this world that get slaughtered everyday FOR OUR OWN WELL BEING, but lets stop the world for 63 cats."

Yes there are animals slaughtered everyday...its called the food chain. I don't hear you complaining about wild animals killing other animals for food. That's the way its been since the beginning of time. The higher up on the food chain you are the more variety you have to eat.

Dogs, cats, hamsters, some birds and even some rabbits are born and bred to be family pets. But at the same time cattle, chicken, pigs, and even rabbits are born and bred for consumtion. Thats the way the food chain goes. Animals being bred for slaughter are very well taken care of and are slaughtered as humanely as possible.

For you to compare food to just the plain degligence and abuse of this woman towards her cats is asinine. This lady was driving around with 2 dead cats in her car and 63 others in various stages of health. What she did was a crime pure and simple. Will the police follow through with the charges? Maybe maybe not. Either way this is a wake up call for her and if she has a problem, maybe this will help her get help.

D
