I have a question about the girls schools. I just saw today that when DJ was in the 6th grade she was still in elementry school. When Stephanie got into the 6th grade she was in middle school. Im confused about that. Why was DJ still in elementry school in 6th and DJ in middle school in 6th?

I think they both went to different schools when they reached sixth grade...

No, DJ & Stephanie went to the same school in Kindergarten/5th Grade & 1st/6th Grade. But for some reason, Stephanie did go to a junior high for 6th grade instead of staying at her elementary school? I know she went to a different 4th grade because the kindergarten was not the same as the one she went to when Michelle later started Kindergarten.

Elementary schools used to go to 6th grade until about 1990-91. Then they changed and only went to 5th grade. That's why when DJ started junior high, she was in 7th grade, but by the time Steph was in 6th grade, that was now middle school.

I know she went to a different 4th grade because the kindergarten was not the same as the one she went to when Michelle later started Kindergarten. That was probably just a blooper, when Stephanie was in Kindergarten it was like, Episode 3 and when Michelle went to Kindergartern it was Season 5, so by that time they probably just changed the set for the school or something, I doubt it was something done on purpose...I think DJ, Michelle, and Stephanie all went to the same Elementary school.

I'm pretty sure they went to the same junior high school. Just by the time Stephanie started there it started in 6th grade instead of 7th.

In my school district Jr. High STILL doesn't start until the 7th grade! I can't believe it's still doing that. Well, I guess it's up to the school district to decide.

If I recall, DJ went to "Van Atta Junior High", which was named for one of the producers or something like that (the name "Doug Van Atta" comes up in the opening credits, and I think that's the source of the school's name). Then Stephanie went to "DiMaggio Junior High".

As for why they went to different junior highs and why at different ages, I can give it to you two ways. From a real-world standpoint, at that time, as someone mentioned, the "middle school" format was winning out over the older "junior high" format, and school districts converted junior highs to middle schools. And middle schools are traditionally grades 6-7-8, while junior highs are 7-8-9. In fact, anymore, at least where I live, you don't see junior high schools anymore. Anything that was has been converted to the middle school format. For the change in the school, blame it on possible redistricting due to population shifts.

As far as the show is concerned, my guess is that for the age change, they likely wanted to get Stephanie into "older girl" scenarios since Michelle was in elementary school, and they wanted to keep the Stephanie character unique, and not be pushed aside by Michelle. As for the school change, you've got me. I figure it's either a mistake, or, more likely, with a few years' worth of a gap between junior highs, they changed out for a better name and hoped no one would notice.

Nah, if you remember, in the Fast Friends episode Steph was saying about how her friends were all at different Middle Schools, so im guessing the town has several middle schools

About Stephanie and DJ going to different middle schools/junior highs: Between the time DJ started junior high and Stephanie started middle school a newer one closer to the house could've been built.
