For a good look at what Carl Reiner might have been like as Rob, see "The Russians are Coming, The Russians Are Coming!" I saw this in first release (ahem...I shouldn't admit that!), loved it then, love it now! One line stands out for me. The little boy (who would have made a good Ritchie, actually!) calls his father a trait-er and his mother corrects him, "That's traitOR!" The movie is very funny, btw.
Alan Arkin's line after "Whitaker Walt" (Reiner) shoots his car is wonderful, not because of the line but because of the way Arkin delivers it: "Don't do it no more."
Incidentally, the little boy in this movie was the same kid in the Classic Trek episode, "A Piece of The Action" in which Kirk and company come upon a planet whose inhabitants mimic the gangs of the nineteen twenties. The kid was a good actor...I wonder what became of him.
