So...our gal, Sal, wound up with Herman Glimpshire. Did she love him or settle? I suspect that Sally really cared about Herman all along, but didn't realize how much. Perhaps HE started seeing someone else and SHE got jealous. It might have been at that moment that she realized how much he meant to her...

Or....

Did she simply throw her hands up and say, "I give up. It's Herman or no one, so it may as well be Herman."

I think that she always did have feelings for him, but his mother was always getting in the way. Maybe Herman's mother died, which allowed Sally to get closer to Herman. They ended up getting married because they were finally able to spend some time together, just the two of them. Just my thought. :)

Nora,
Sadly, I tend to think Sally settled for Herman. She never, even from the very beginning, spoke of him in glowing terms. You know, the way people who feel as if they've finally found the right person speak. It appears she was never excited about him in any way. In fact, she even dated other men right in front of him, never afraid she'd drive him away.
I think she liked him though. I think he provided a comical distraction for her at times, and was a guy she could count on to be there for those times when she had to show up with a "fella." So, in the companionship department, he was adequate.
People marry for all sorts of reasons, and it appears Sally found at least one to marry Herman Glimshire.

If Sally settled, why do you think she had to? She was a really NEAT person. Was she a victim of the times? Would she do better today? I don't know about anyone else but those shows where she has to pretend to be a weak and stupid female are like fingers on a chalkboard to me!

You know...she could have done worse that the guy from the deli was madly in love with her!
