Wooooo I get my braces off January 24! After 4 effing years. But ummm...Does it hurt? Like, a lot? And does anyone else have the same problem with impressions as I do? I have like the worst gag reflex in the world and people have to like hold me down when I get impressions made. Does anyone have any tips as to how not to throw up on everyone when getting my impressions?

And ALSO...I'm getting a positioner instead of a retainer. Has anyone had one of those?

The day I got mine off was one of the best days of my life. I don't remember it hurting too bad, it certainly wasn't as bad as the tightenings were.

YAYYYYYYYYY

Breathe through your nose and wiggle your toes when you're getting the impressions.

It doesn't really hurt at all to get them off... your gums might bleed a little but that's all.

What's a positioner?

When i first got my braces,i was dreading the impressions, but my orthodontist told me to squeeze my stomach muscles really tight and lift my legs off the chair,it sounded ridiculous but it really worked!
When you get them off, your teeth feel really slimy. ;)

It's easy, I just felt a little bit of pressure, it wasn't bad at all. And your teeth do feel really slimy afterwards. Oh, and once you get them off you can eat ice, and croutons, and popcorn, and all that stuff without a care in the world. I ate that stuff when I had my braces and I broke off my brackets like 7 times...they hated me there...

All they do is like... pluck the brackets off. It was funny... for 3 and a half years my braces stayed on through all the eating, then all of a sudden, it takes .3 seconds to get them off.

The first time you look in the mirror is going to be really funny. Your teeth are going to look so big, because you're so used to having them on.

I got my braces off last June and it was the best day of my life. I don't know what a positioner is so I can't help you with that. After they take off your braces, your teeth look really big and slimy like everyone else said but you'll get used to it. I had like yellow spots on my teeth after I got them off, due to the brackets, but they go away.

She shoved one of those metal things with that goo crap in my mouth...hurt like hell because it was too small...and I'm sitting there trying my best to suffer through it. She takes it out, and goes "whoops, that one was too small. I have to do it again." Fuuunnn ****. They just tell you to try your best breathing out of your nose calmly.

I've done that so many times. Since fourth grade up until 8th. I finally got them off 2 years ago.

Okay I'm definitely going to do the stomach/leg thing. I need all the help I can get.

A positioner is this rubber thing that is like a mouthguard, kinda, but it has the teeth shape in there...you know? So you put it in your mouth for a certain number of hours a day and when you sleep and it holds your teeth kinda like a retainer.

I had braces in HS and it was very painful! I ate soup for 2yrs and was so HAPPY the day they came off. It took about 5 minutes but I bled some so it was kinda yucky! LOL
Impressions never bothered me so I have no advice there.
I used a retainer on the bottom and a positioner for the top teeth. Those felt funny for a while until I got used to them.
I also had a fake roof in my mouth made, I guess to open my bite and that gave me an accent when I talked! LOL After a while it was thinned down and I went back to normal; that hurt more to remove than the braces.

I had mine taken off awhile ago. I'm the worst with the impressions. There was one time where they put the top one in and left it in too long. I didn't think they would be able to get it out, or if they did that my teeth were going to go with it. I still hate getting them done, I always gag. It didn't hurt when they took mine off at all. I will tell you to always wear your retainer! I still wear mine every night that I go to sleep. I have forgotten before, and you can feel a difference the next night.

I had braces for almost four years when I got them taken off last year. It doesn't hurt to get them removed, but it sure is annoying when the ortho scrapes all the glue off your teeth. And when you get your retainers, always, ALWAYS wear them. It was hard to keep mine on cuz I always ate at the most random times. I think my teeth shifted because I didn't wear them too much, but I don't think the ortho noticed because he told me I only have to wear them at night now. Wearing retainers is going to suck, but it's essential in keeping your new smile. :D

awesome... I had mine off in June. it doesn't hurt too bad at all actually but the impressions are always a bitch for me. i try to keep myself distracted by playing a song in my head. Sometimes the assistants tell you something like "lify your right leg...lift your left leg" to keep you distracted. Well, good luck :)

Congratulations on losing the braces. As for impressions, I had it done twice and it blew my mind, but I'm a big baby.

Good luck! :)

I got my braces off last March. My teeth felt so weird for the first few days I had them off because food would pretty much just slide off it instead of get stuck in it, which it had been doing for the last 2.5 years. I'm glad I got them though. I had horrible teeth but now I don't feel uncomfortable smiling. :D
