Guys,
There are a lot of continuity problems in this episode. This is the one that combines flashbacks with "Two on a Raft" along with the added footage of Gilligan fishing, accidently hooking the radio, and the fish swallowing the transmiter! (I have the DVD, so I have seen the uncut version.) What was the point of the castaways all speaking into parts of the fish? Did they all catch different fish in the hopes that one of them swallowed the radio? I never got that sequence.
This episode seems rushed and poorly done. They should have incorperated the "flashbacks" into "Two on a Raft." Anyone without the DVD is going to think that sequences were edited from "Two on a Raft." Now we know that the footage of Gilligan fishing was most likely intended for "Two on a Raft" but was never used. Instead of the overly long sequence of Gilligan and Skipper fending off those sharks, Sherwood should have just used the Gilligan fishing sequence for "Two on a Raft." At least it would have helped the continuity of the story.
Skipper's Santa parady was a stretch, even by Gilligan's Island standards! The opening Christmas sequence was not necessary. It's as if Sherwood said, "OK...geez, well I have to put something in the script for a Christmas theme because I forgot to incorperate it into the middle part of the story...OK! We'll have Alan Hale as Santa Clause just to give us.....something!" This episode would have worked so much better just involving itself along a story line of Gilligan casting for fish, the professor listening to a newscast or something and Gilligan thinking that the fish could talk because of swallowing the radio! The Christmas element was not needed, and neither were the "Two on a Raft" flashbacks. What do you think?
