If you were a LITB writer, what career would you have picked for Ward? I would have chosen a police detective! :D

Hi Amy! As long as they never said it is anyone's guess. I think he would have been a very good lawyer or bank president too. :D

I think Ward should have been a Protestant clergyman - a minister in New England, for instance. June would have made an excellent clergyman's wife. Beaver's hijinks would have been embarassing and puzzling to his strait laced, pious parents and so many delicious incidents could have evolved from the family situation. Tee-hee!

Before he portrayed Ward on Leave it to Beaver, Hugh Beaumont was a Methodist Minister. So that role would be perfect for him.

I thought he was an accountant

That's what I heard but it was never mentioned for sure. On every LITB Mail List/message board people try to guess what he was. If I had to pick, I think it would be kind of funny if he was a sports writer! It would have worked out well for Wally since he was such an athlete. Just a thought lol.

I don't really wanna get too far off the subject since we are just picking what we want Ward to do but I was under the impression that he was an engineer because he once told Beaver in that episode "Beaver's hero" that he was an engineer in the Seabees so why wouldn't he further his career after?

Interesting thought. Maybe it just didn't work out for him, but I think he would be a good engineer!

Jerry Mathers speculated in an interview years ago that Ward was supposed to be an accountant though Mathers admitted had no idea what Ward's actual occupation was supposed to be. It makes sense to me that Ward was connected in some way with engineering, construction, contracting, etc. He was an engineer in the Sea Bees. In his office on LITB hang pictures of buildings that all appear to be have done by the same hand. Ward also mentioned in the episode about Beaver creating a poster for school that he was an artist as a kid. I think it was suggested in that episode as well that Ward could do a professional job with Beaver's poster. Ward's office doesn't look to me like that of an architect but I suspect he was connected in some way with building things - construction, engineering, contracting, etc.
