If you were writing a "Rob has a midlife crises" episode, what year would you place it and what would happen? GO! :D

I think Ritchie Petrie would have been a Richie Cunningham or Beaver Cleaver type. Not too much trouble, just silly stuff.

Since the show was a little progressive, and since Richie already expressed a liking for kissing, I'd say it would have something to do with girls:
Richie is totally smitten by a cute girl at school (Amanda), and has been for some time. He thinks she likes him too. Wanting to go steady, he is too shy to ask the girl. His Uncle Jerry is visiting one day, so he confesses his fears to him. Jerry gives the same advice Rob once gave him, "practice talking with another girl." So Richie does, but the practice girl, a tomboy named Beatrice (but she prefers "Bert"), advises him to do and say things all wrong, and when he does, Amanda wants nothing to do with him! Rob and Laura notice his demeaner one evening while doing homework and ask him about it. "What good is studying? Good grades never get you anything, except stuffed in a locker. I should be running track or playing football. That's what girls - I mean people - really like!" Afraid he's lost any chance whatsoever, he tells the whole thing to his parents. Rob convinces him to tell Amanda what happened and to just be himself. Richie does it. Amanda doesn't want to go steady with anyone just yet (she feels she's too young), but she thinks he's cool, and accepts a date to a movie with him.

Hey, this is great! I say...write it! :-D I can see Ritchie as a Ritchie Cunningham, too. He has a good, solid home life with parents who care about one another and care about him. Rob and Laura appear to attend church, Rob is a City Councilman and a successful television writer. He seems to have all the elements for a healthy teenage period.

What kinds of things would Rob and Ritchie do together as Ritchie got older? Father and son stuff...I doubt Rob is bringing him home paper clips after the age of eight anymore!
