I know that a few of you in the US can play PAL tapes. I am just wondering what kind of player you have. I have wanted to buy a 'Multi System' for awhile now, but I have heard that they only work with a certain type of television. Is this right, or is that just for pal players? Any info would be great. Thanks

I have a Sony multi-system vcr, it is excellent. Yes, if you are a purist, you need a PAL (or multi-system) tv in order to view PAL tapes. But there are plenty of multi-system vcrs that will also convert the PAL signal to NTSC internally so that you can view your tapes on a NTSC tv. Or you can buy a video convertor and hook it up between a PAL vcr and a NTSC tv and have it convert the signal.

If you just want to play pal tapes on an NTSC TV, go with the Aiwa Mx-100 vcr (you can buy one of these from Ebay) or the Panasoinc AG-W1, don't buy the Samsung 5000w I bought this one and it only worked for a few months and broke down. If you plan to convert from Pal to NTSC and vice versa, go with a tenlab converter (they are more expensive than other converters but they are much better), the website that the other person requested sells the CMD-850, 950 and a newer model but I have already tried the CMD-950 model and believe me, it is inferior to the tenlab converter. But, if you cannot afford the tenlab the CMD-950 does an okay job. Hope this helps.
