SOAPnet Acquires "Skin" and "The Monroes" for Spring Premiere

January 12, 2005 -- BURBANK, CA – SOAPnet has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights to all eight episodes of "Skin" including four never-before-seen episodes and eight episodes of "The Monroes" from Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution, announced Deborah Blackwell, General Manager, SOAPnet. The network has also renewed "Knots Landing" from WBDCD.

"Short-lived series have a home on SOAPnet. The acquisitions of ‘Skin’ and ‘The Monroes’ continue to establish our brand as a home for all soaps and provides our viewers with a 24-hour soapy environment," said Blackwell. "Our viewers will be delighted to watch never-before-seen episodes of ‘Skin’."

Both new series will air weekends on SOAPnet beginning this spring. "Skin" is an updated take on the classic tale of doomed, star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet set in modern-day Los Angeles. She is Jewel, the white, teenaged daughter of the head of a pornography empire, and her beloved, Adam, is a 17-year-old Latino whose mother is a judge and father is the district attorney trying to take the porn king down. "Skin" was created by Jerry Bruckheimer (CSI) and stars Ron Silver (TV’s "The West Wing," "Ali") and newcomers Olivia Wilde as Jewel and D.J. Cotrona as Adam. The show aired on FOX originally.

"The Monroes" is "Dynasty"-meets-the-Kennedys when primetime soap star William Devane ("Knots Landing") and Golden Globe-nominee Susan Sullivan ("Dharma & Greg") star as the heads of a rich, influential Washington, D.C. political clan. The show aired on ABC in 1995 originally.

That's good news about Skin. I had wanted to check that show out and was upset FOX got rid of it so quickly.

Same here. I was really getting into that show & they canned it after like 3 or 4 episodes. I'm really looking forward to seeing the unaired episdoes on SoapNet.

I'm gonna check these shows out.

I just wish SOAPnet would focus on trying to pick up Santa Barbara and other good soaps like that, that people have been wanting in addition to the short lived soaps.

That's great news about Knots Landing :)

I agree. but IN ADDITION to, not instead of as other people have said. i think in order for the network to grow they need both short-lived and long-running series. the short-lived shows are good because they fill a void for some of us who miss our fave short-lived shows and also fill the schedule really well for a few weeks at a time..

And I assume they're also cheaper.

I watched the first episode and liked it but after I saw the ratings I stopped watching because I knew FOX would cancel it in a few weeks.

I think Soap Net should get Santa Barbara and Sunset Beach and maybe even pick up Passions instead of running Dallas and Knots Landing that are so old now.

Yeah they should get Santa Barbara, but there's nothing wrong with them airing old soaps, they air Ryan's Hope from the late 70's and Another World from the late 80's

yeah i think they need to air both older and newer soaps. plus Dallas and Knots Landing get VERY high ratings for soapnet. if they do drop a soap it should be Dynasty, which is sort of boring.
