Did the professor really have a Phd or was he just a high school science teacher? On one of the "Inside Gilligan's Island" shows, it said that they had Russell Johnson memorizing chemsitry formulas and other scientific information that was used in the scripts. I always thought this was pretty cool!

The professor was a 35 years old high school teacher, holds 6 degrees in the fields of chemistry, botany, biology and geography. He has a B.A from USC, a B.S. from UCLA, an M.A. from SMU, and received his Ph.D from TCU at the age of 25. He also holds a master's degree in psychology.

By the time the Rescue From Gfilligan's Island tv movie rolled around the Professor worked at a college on the east coast (but we don't know if he also worked at the same place in the 60's before getting shipwrecked). Celine, do you remember when the Professor specifically claimed to work at a high school? I always thought he was a college professor. In the piloi John Gabriel's professor worked at a boy's school, but that's really in a lot of ways another character.
