This show is about Cate(Katey Sagal) and how she deals with her new life.Kerry is at a boarding school,and Bridget in Los Angeles trying to make it as an actress,while Rory is living with Aunt Maggie(Cybill Shepard)while he continues high school. Jim has since moved in with C.J and Ed is Cate's live-in-boyfriend. Cate still works as a school nurse,while Ed is still the principal. Ed proposes to her,she accepts,but wants a quickie marriage.
