Ok... A friend and I were debating on an issue today of old customs or whatever you wanna call the "way things were" in the LITB days. She said that it inferiorated her that men thought that it was a wife's duty to satisfy her husband in the "marital sense". She considered that way of thinking very wrong in the sense that she saw it as crossing a thin line. She actually called it rape, because she said that it was expected whether the wife wanted it or not. I say she is taking it way out of context, after all, how can a man rape his own wife? I guess my question is... what is your input on this issue and what custom if any bothers you or at the very least makes you raise your eyebrows? I never understood the idea of arranging dates for your children. That always bothered me about June, she seemed to always accept social activities for the boys without talking to them about it first. I assume that was a thing of the past...right?

I don't think a husband can rape his own wife, but if they forcefully have sex it is very close. Also I agree about June arranging dates for Wally. Another thing that has changed, of course, is the whole issue of women working outside the home. I am sure June would have never thought of doing that.

Other things that have been brought up is how they dressed up and wore ties all the time, and how Beaver and Wally ALWAYS called Ward "sir."

Hi Amy! I think many of the ways women are treated in society now is better. In the days of LITB they often weren't able to have careers other than homemakers and mothers. This is fine but now women are much less limited I feel.

As for things about the show that bother me are the boys' lack of privacy, and always having to call Ward "sir," which I mentioned before. :lol:

Another thing that comes to mind is that it was supposedly "acceptable" for the husband to spank his wife. Some say it didn't happen and some say it did on occassion.
