Wow! What did you use for video capture? I use a winTV card paired with winVCR software but I think I'll need a better video capture card.

I use the Matrox Marvel G400 DualHead with Adobe Premiere 5.5. It's a wonderful video capture card! The results are very good.

Fabiano. How do you digitalize Shows from VHS to CD? I have so many tapes at home that there is not enough room to hold everything and am trying to find a way to it? E-mail me when you can.

no, no. Reply here. I'm curious too. I've managed to record one episode from VHS to MPEG (Clair's Birthday) but it wasn't easy.

With the Matrox Marvel G400 DualHead I have acquired the video from my Philips VR400 Video Recorder (VHS System) at the resolution 352x288 (in AVI format). Then I have converted this AVI file in MPEG format with Xing Mpeg Encoder. Every episode is about 100 MB with good quality.

I have almost every episode on tape, but I'm in Europe now so I can't do anything with them. Maybe when I return to the States in a year I can help some of you. I don't really know how to record from one vhs to another.

I have recorded a few series but I just started with the Nick at Nite Cosby episodes on VHS.
In January, I bought a Panasonic DMR-E20 DVD recorder. I paid a little under $800 for mine. The discs now go for as little as $2 each.
I haven't started recording the Cosby Show on DVD yet because I still have analog cable- and it looks like crap. For now it's a waste of a blank DVD. Once I get Direct TV, I will start recording to DVD.
If you are serious about having these episodes in high quality format, I would go with DVD over VCD. I don't consider VCD to be any better than VHS. And in some cases, it's actually worse. Then again, I'm very picky about picture quality.

Ironically, after a ton of effort, I finally got my computer setup to record the episodes automatically (as of today). All I gotta do is leave my computer on!

I was just celebrating my achievement and then the reply notification in the mail. lol

I do plan on recording the Cosby Show as soon as they show the pilot one here

My plan is to record for a month or two and sort 'em out later. Over here, The Cosby Show comes on 5 times a day (Nick at Nite & TBS), so I'm taking advantage of the situation. I'll probably end up with duplicates between the two channels but that'll allow me to pick the better quality recording.

Right now I record at 320x200 1209.1 Kbps video @ 30 fps w/ 64 kbps, 44 kHz, stereo audio in ASF (soon MPEG) format (300MB per half hour) which is admittedly a bit overkill but I'll probably thank for doing it in the future.

Oh yeah, a 900 Tbird , WinTV FM, Win2k, and Snapstream are my current major tools.

Edit: Has anyone noticed that my first post in this thread was in the year 2000? It took me a year and a half to get started

I usually tape the 3PM showing of TCS on TBS cause I'm not at home during that time. Then I watch the NAN showing. Right now TBS is on the 6th season, while NAN is showing the 2nd season.

Has anyone taped any of the E! Hollywood True Stories about this show? Or any other shows like that where they interview characters and talk about the show? Also, I heard that when the show stopped airing they showed some clips of auditions and other bloopers. Does anyone have that taped?

I'm thinking about recording the show... but I really shouldnt because I have about 40 facts of life tapes... 10 family ties... and another 20 of Diff'rent Strokes and I'm running out of space!! Where do you guys store your tapes at?

I'll be storing mine on CD once I figure out an easy way to edit out commercials. 15 episodes recorded since last Monday.:D

I am getting an ATI All in wonder Radeon and getting it to automatically record the episodes. I have the E! hollywood story on tape and i will email it when i get my radeon. If anyone has ALL the episodes on CD in ENGLISH I will buy them for 300 dollars. Once we all get these on cd lets burn them multiple times and put them on ebay. Also I am going to start a website the Commitee of Preservation for The Cosby Show and related material. I am trying to preserve this show and others for the next generation. Face it TBS, WGN, and Nick at Nite will NOT play the cosby show for ever. Sometime it will end and if we dont have the show on CD we will miss out. We could request a cosby marathon on TBS , WGN, or NaN. This will make it easier to get episodes. We would need one of ALL seasons.

Thanks

I ran into the same storage problem when I moved to Europe. What I did was buy some storage tubs at Wal-Mart and put all of my tapes in them. They also have trunks if you prefer. It works well, but you may have to dig for a tape when you want it. Personally, I like to watch the episodes, then shelve them for a while. I enjoy them the most if I haven't watched them for some time.
