Penny Lane 01-08-2005, 09:52 PM I started smoking when I was 17(1968). It was considered cool back then. And not until years later it was proven dangerous to ones health. I never smoked during my 2 pregnancies as it was deemed dangerous to the baby. But I always went back to it after the babies were born. Unfortunately both my kids were raised in a smoke filled home. I really regret that now knowing how dangerous that was! My daughter smokes but she smokes outside so that her children are not inhaling it. My son smokes occasionally but usually chews tobacco. My husband quit smoking 5 years before I did. I have been smoke free since 1990 and I plan to keep it that way! The last carton of cigarettes that I bought cost around $13.00. I have no idea what they cost now! Thankfully my kids never suffered any serious effects from our smoking.(except to take it up !) We keep trying to discourage it but you know how that is................... Oh well, hopefully they will see the light before it is too late!
Czas na Zywiec 01-08-2005, 11:29 PM Smoking is harmful and it will shorten your lifespan-enough said.
She's asking a few people to participate in her research about smoking, not your opinion on whether you think it's harmful or not. I think it'd be beneficial to everyone here if you actually read the topic before you replied to it. Idiot.
Lady T 01-08-2005, 11:46 PM I started to smoke cigarettes when I was fifteen years old. I did not do it because it was considered cool because none of my friends smoked. I continued with this habit for 18 years and finally quit in July of last year. I was never a heavy smoker (never smoked a pack a day) but that is besides the point. It was an expensive habit. A pack of Marlboro's cost close to five bucks! I decided to give up smoking because it was starting to effect my appearence, I am a vain person and I started to notice thin lines above my lips. Since I do not smoke anymore I have seen a great improvement in my skin, hair and especially my teeth and I do not wake up in the moring coughing.
M82A1 01-10-2005, 10:46 AM I started smoking when I was 17 - in October of '03 - So I've smoked for a little over a year now. I don't have any physical restrictions caused by the cigarette smoke, nor do I cough, yet. My mom has smoked for almost 40 years, she smoked through all of her 4 pregnancies, none of her children had any abnormal birth defects supposedly caused by smoking. My aunt smoked un-filtered cigarettes for over 60 years, until the day she died. She died of a heart attack. I know what some of you are going to say; "cigarettes also damage your heart, blah, blah, blah." She died of a heart attack because she weighed over 250 pounds and ate whatever she wanted. Now, my brother on the other hand, has smoked for about 13 years. He coughs really bad when he gets up in the morning.
As for quiting; the only way I'll quit is if the government pays me for every cigarette that I don't smoke.

No name calling please. Why single out one person who is answering basically the same as everyone else.
Michael [hXc] 01-10-2005, 09:43 PM My dad starting smoking when he was 9 and stopped last year. I think its gross and i would never consider trying it.

how does that make him an idiot?

I apologize for the name calling, but she was asking about teens who've smoked, teens who do smoke, and teens who haven't. True, he's never smoked, but he's not exactly a teen. If it was a random question, sure, but if she was asking for participants in her study, he doesn't really fit the criteria.
I try sending him PMs, but he never replies to them. So I confronted him here about it. Again, I'm sorry.
Czas na Zywiec 01-10-2005, 10:14 PM how does that make him an idiot? if anything its the people that respond the way you did that qualify as one.
Nice try, but you're a little late.

But does he read them? I've sent him a PM once and he never responded. I checked the tracking and he did read it. Another time I sent him a PM he replied to it. Sometimes people will read PMs but not respond.
