I just pulled this off of AOL. Topher Grace is leaving at the end of this season. Read on:

That '70s Show, which has lasted almost as long as the actual 1970s, will continue for another season, despite some major cast defections and the show's ratings slide this season. Variety reports that Fox is preparing to renew the series, even though star Topher Grace has said he's leaving at the end of this season when his contract is up. (''I never cry, like ever. Even at Finding Nemo,'' the 26-year-old actor told People while promoting his current film, In Good Company. ''But I'm going to just lose it'' when his final episode tapes, he told the magazine.) And Ashton Kutcher, who's had the most successful extracurricular career of all the cast members, is expected to return only part-time as he concentrates on his production company and his movie career.

Another sign of age for the sitcom, which launched in 1998: It's lost 35 percent of its audience in the past year, down to 6.5 million viewers a week, according to Nielsen. The show ranks 82nd in primetime this season, thanks largely to competition from a new rival in its timeslot, ABC's hit Lost. Still, keeping the show alive for another year adds to the already tall stack of episodes in syndication, where the show does well. So money from reruns will probably keep rolling in through the 2070s

I'm almost not that sad to see Topher go. I loved the Eric character for a long time but now? Not so much. He's the most annoying on the show and it'd be interesting to see how they handle his departure, if it happens. My bet is that the show won't be renewed, though.

It pisses me off that hes leaving. I mean I agree with you on how hes changed sooo much but you cant have a damn show go on another season when the main character isnt there.

Yeah, its' going to be wierd seeing the gang hanging around the Foreman house if Eric isn't there.

I wonder how they're going to write him off the show. Is he going to break up with Donna?

They should end the show at the end of the season, they already lost a nice chunk of their audience already. I don't think a lot of people would watch especially if Grace and Kutcher leave.

I can guarantee you that they will not replace Topher with another actor to play Eric.

You don't replace the main character in the last- let's be real here- season of a show.

Besides they need Topher for guest appearances if the show goes on.

Regardless, I can't see myself watching.
I don't know why I'm watching now, it's the absolute worst it's ever been.

I agree. The show has run out of steam, and they should end it. I wouldn't like to see them drag the show along for another season, only to be canceled before they could have a finale and wrap things up.

Topher won't be replaced and I know the storyline of how he departs but I don't think I can post it here.....I should go look for a spoiler board I suppose.

Well, as you know, I think that if they ended it at season 7, things for the syndicated cycle would have uneven repeated episodes. So I mean look for example the recently cancelled game show Hollywood Square "AKA H2", That show lasted for 6 seasons in syndication, and since GSN (Formely Game Show Network) has the rights to the show each 2 seasons that H2 is produced "1998-2000", "2000-2002" "2002-2004" But I mean with the money that the show is producing, it would mean that syndicatedwise, T70sS would be generating almost $900,000,000 per year with the 2nd cycle of repeated episodes. Besides cable repeats of that '70s Show will start airing this fall on FX network. Look at KOTH and Fear Factor, they started their cable cycle on FX and thus they are generating more money for the network. :D

P.S. Since it is on for another season and I wasn't able to be a part of the show audience since it is real popular, it will be nice to come back for another 2nd go around especially for those who were unfortunate to go see the show during the past season. So that is why i am still happy that the show is back for another season. :D :D

Hi,

Haven't really posted here before(I'm mostly on the Three's Company board) but I love That 70's show and I figured I'd give my input :D

I can't imagine the show without Kutcher and Grace, honestly. They are two of my favorite characters. Although the show has considerably gone downhill, I think the removal of those two major characters will severely damage an overall GOOD show. I mean, ok, MAYBE they could do without Kutcher for a bit....but Grace? Not a chance. He's basically the main character and every episode takes place at HIS house....how are they going to work that in? I dunno. I kinda wish they would've just ended the series, to be honest :( A show just isn't the same without a major(or even minor) character not there. Hell, I was sad when Laurie left( I loved her character) and I'll be even more sad when Eric leaves. I guess I'll just have to relive the magic through my DVDs :(

Speaking of, does anyone know when Season 2 is going to be released?

That would be good but the problem is and I said it before and I will say it again! The syndicated cycle of episodes will be uneven and thus will cause alot of loss of money for syndication because of the uneven run in the future. But I'm kind of happy myself that it is coming back because I tried to get on the show in January but I never made it. So at least for me I am getting a 2nd chance. :D

This is a sad ending to what was once a great show. Too bad they've prolonged this longer than it should have been. It should have ended last season but realistically THIS season should have been the end. The show is just not funny anymore.

In the long run it is always best to end on a high note....to bad.
