Principal Karen Harris

This CBS sitcom is about a high school principal who tries her best at being in charge at the James Madison High School. Principal Karen Harris (Candice Bergen), 52 years old, has been principal for 12 years now. Karen's Vice Principal and best friend is Terri Burke (Debra Jo Rupp). Karen and Terri's other faculty members include: a married, hunky History teacher, Greg Jacobs (Tim Daly), a young, gorgeous French teacher, Rachel Carrington (Tori Spelling), a quirky, fun Chorus teacher, Mary Beth Stephens (Bette Midler), a funny, friendly Math teacher, Dave Paulsen (Jason Alexander), a wise, intelligent janitor, Allen Reynolds (George Wendt), and more. Karen must deal with sudden drop-ina by her boss-superintendant Charles Flaxton (Ed O'Neil). But secretly, Charles and Karen must hide their secret romance from other faculty members and students. Karen and Terri are a current-day version of "lucy and ethel".

Episodes:

Ep1: Pilot Episode:
Karen receives an award for celebrating her 12th year being principal at James Madison High School. Terri and the faculty members throw a party for Karen at Terri's house Friday night (same day as she got the award). Greg is forced to leave the party early, as he learns his very pregnant wife, Jennifer is going to have their baby boy. Greg and Jennifer name their son, Matthew Hunter Jacobs.

Ep2: Babysitting Like A Dream:
Terri and Karen eagerly want to babysit for Greg and Jennifer. While babysitting, Karen learns she wants a child despite her being 52 years old. Meanwhile, at school, Mary Beth prepares the choir for a school concert. Mary Beth soon discovers a new talented student in her choir-Bridget (Hilary Duff).

Ep3: Affectionate Affair:
The whole school is concerned when Rachel and her 18 year old teacher's aide, Jeff (Billy Aaron Brown) seem to be getting a bit closer than necessary. Karen, Terri, and Mary Beth overhear gossip about Rachel and Jeff planning to go out to Chez Pierre for dinner Saturday night. The three women (in disguise) go there and spy on the teacher and teacher's aide in action, but get interrupted by the rude and annoying waiter.


Ep4: Secrets A-Floating:
Karen and Charles must keep their affair a secret from everyone-even Terri. Terri realizes something is going on between Charles and Karen, after noticing Charles walking out of Karen's office with a big smile on his face. Meanwhile, Mary Beth is eagerly pressuring Bridget (Duff) to do a solo at the concert, Bridget refuses to.

Ep5: Paternal Leave:
Karen lets Greg go on paternal leave, after Greg's wife and son both have gotten sick and he needs to take care of them until they are better. Karen finds a substitute teacher for Greg-Jerry (Malcolm-Jamal Warner). Jerry proves to be a laid-back yet intimidating kind of guy. Jerry wips the kids into shape after thinking Jerry is a push-over (as he is not). Meanwhile, Al the janitor gives Terri some words of advice, after seeing Terri is having a bad day.

Ep6: Al's Wife?:
A widowed (of 2 years) Terri is wondering if Al has a wife. None of the faculty knows, until Terri and Mary Beth ask Al. Al breaks down and confesses his wife died on their 25th wedding anniversary 10 years ago. The women consoles Al. In hope of cheering him up, Mary Beth, her hubby Dan, Al, Terri, and Karen decide to go out to the bars for some drinks. The Stephenses and Karen realize Terri has a thing for Al, and vice versa.

Ep7: Jerry And Greg:
With a surprise return of Greg back from paternal leave, Karen must decide whether to hire Jerry fulltime or not. Karen hires Jerry, as she and Jerry try to set him up with a classroom, some students, some desks, etc. Meanwhile, Dave and his wife, Lisa (Kathy Najimy) have to have parent-teacher conferences at the middle school for their 11 year old daughter, Sophie. Sophie's teacher tells them she is misbehaving in class, they try to get to the bottom of things to stop her misbehaving in class.

Ep8: Parlar Vous Francais?:
Rachel must find a family for a French foreign exchange student to stay with during her 10 month stay in America. Jeff and his family volunteer to take Celeste (Jodie Sweetin) in during her stay. Rachel is somewhat jealous that Jeff is having a beautiful Celeste stay with him. Meanwhile, Terri's mother, Rosemarie (Betty White) pays a visit with her new fiancee , John (Ed Asner). Terri is not happy with Rosemarie dating John, so soon after Terri's dad's death.
