Hello everyone! This is my first post.

First, I would like to say that I am a HUGE Wonder Years fan (my all-time favorite show!). I have never seen another television show with so much power. While I followed the show (during the ages of 9 to 14), I was amazed at how much the show affected my day to day life. Today, I understand the show and its characters even more. I must say I was devastated that the father died and Kevin and Winnie did not marry. However, today I realise that that was the beauty of the show--capturing the essence of life. Did Kevin, with his controlling, sometimes shallow ways, really deserve Winnie?

Second, after much work, I have finally recieved a response from someone involved with the DVD release(s). I will have more info today or tomorrow. So far I have been told: "The show is on its way to DVD, keep your eyes open."

'bout time!!!!!!

:happyface

Dude, I'd like to believe you. But I have my doubts. First of all, you never told us your sources. And... you didn't tell us how you are related to this guy who gave you this information. They don't just give away this type of information to just some average joe. Usually, production companies like to keep it hush-hush until they publicly announce it. Why? To ward off rumors.

Welcome to the forums. May I ask "who" you got that information from? There are too many rumors floating around, so we don't want another starting. Thanks

The Wonder Years featured so many classic songs, and apparently the music rights,or something or other,is the reason there is no dvd.Damn it!

David Lambart, one of the owners of TVShowsonDVD told us, the fans, that no one official has sent information to the website. Pavan Badal, one of the posters on this thread, is an insider, and he would've found something like this out before anyone else. So apparently, PURE is a LIAR. Until we can confirm it that is.

Hopefully this individual knows something. Lets HOPE for the BEST.
I do, however, have to agree with the critics.
Over a year ago, I began a quest in an effort to find out about the Wonder Years on DVD.
I tracked down the following info:

1) Fox owns the Wonder Years.
2) Fox sold television distribution rights to Warner.
3) ABC Family's contract on the show expires, I believe, this year.
4) I was told by an employee of Fox, who was by the way a former employee of New World Entertainment and present during the "Wonder Years", the following..... MUSIC RIGHTS WERE NEVER EVEN DISCUSSED PAST THE BROADCAST OF THE SHOW ITSELF. BECAUSE OF THE VAST MUSIC IN THE SERIES, DVD RELEASE IS EXTREMELY UNLIKELY.
COST OF OBTAINING MUSIC RIGHTS WOULD BE BEYOND A MARKETABLE POSSIBILITY. SHE ALSO MENTIONED "CHINA BEACH" AS ANOTHER SHOW WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.
AS FOR THE SHOW NOT BEING ON TV, THE WONDER YEARS IN RECENT YEARS HAS PULLED DOWN DISMAL RATINGS. DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS BECAUSE OF ABC FAMILY'S HANDLING OF THE SHOW OR THE FACT THAT THEY MAY JUST BE THE WRONG NETWORK. SEEMINGLY, THE CURRENT NETWORK SEEMS TO BE SATISFIED WITH "SITTING' ON THE SHOW.

If people really care about the show, I can only make two suggestions...

1) Write someone like Nick at Nite, and ask them to acquire the show. I always thought they did a nice job with it.

2) Read an earlier post from James about writing to a DVD production company about producing the show on DVD. According to James, this company has a track record of producing difficult projects. Writing to Fox also couldn't hurt.

It continues to really make me angry that this great show is not on DVD, especially when seeing the junk that is.
It's a shame we couldn't all combine our resources and just buy the show from FOX.

A show owned by it's own fans? That's a cool concept. Hope of this release dwindles.

This PURE guy... he's full of ****. He has to be. He's only made two posts on this board... hasn't responded to us; hasn't defended his position. It's been four days since he posted. He told us to look out for a public statement through TVShowsonDVD or Digital Bits. David Lambart, one of the founders of TVShowsonDVD said that he hasn't heard anything from anyone. Pavan Badel, an insider who not only works for Sony (am I correct Pavan?) but also announced All in the Family Season 4 and The Jeffersons Season 3 two weeks before TVShowsonDVD got the news, hasn't heard any news about Wonder Years. And now we're supposed to believe this average joe, who emailed the people who own the distribution rights to Wonder Years, who suddenly has this news about a tv show that has a very high chance of not making it to DVD due to it's music licensing issues?

Now, if it turns out that what PURE found out is to be true..... then I forgive him. Until then, he's a liar.

No, I don't "work" for any TV DVD studio. But no, I have not heard anything on Wonder Years on DVD.

I am really at a loss to understand screenwriter's attitude.
This "average joe" posted the information about this Wonder Years DVD back on January 11, 2002. So, it is not new.
I am not an "insider", but rather just a fan of the show that was willing to spend a few bucks on some long distance phone calls to track down some info.
Established insider sites wouldn't even take the time to answer my e-mails to them concerning the show.
It was the opinion of this former employee of New World that a Wonder Years DVD would never happen. And it was all about the music rights.
An opinion. Nothing more, Nothing less.
But, almost three years later, still no DVD.

has anyone bought any of the "unofficial release" full season dvds? I see them on ebay - all 115 episodes. Does anyone have any experience with a buyer? how's the format.
Since it looks like it will be a long time, if ever before the show is actually released I was wondering if this is a good option or a waste of money?
thanks

I wouldn't buy the unofficial box set,as tempting as it sounds and as desperate as I am.

Wonder Years, The - Wonder-ful DVDs 'on the schedule', Fox says! Posted by David Lambert
2/20/2005
(Note: sung to the tune of " With A Little Help From My Friends" , and with apologies to Joe Cocker, as well as to The Beatles):

What would you do, if I subbed out your tunes?
Would you give up, boycott these DVDs?
Lend me your ears, I've got good news for you,
Fox will try not to screw up this thing!
That's just our fun way of bringing up what ought to be good news! The new edition (2/25/2005) of Entertainment Weekly magazine has a story about The Wonder Years, in their semi-regular feature about television shows that ought to be on DVD, but aren't yet.

TVShowsOnDVD doesn't usually cover topics mentioned in their column, because it normally involves some wishful thinking rather than any actual plans. And much of the time any "plans" mentioned are something along the lines of "the studio is mulling a release of this item in the coming year" (nothing set in stone, in other words). But this time the word is a bit different.

This issue of Entertainment Weekly quotes Fox Home Entertainment's Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications, Mr. Steve Feldstein, as saying "We've got it on the schedule, but there are hurdles to clear prior to a firm release date."

"On the schedule" sounds pretty good to us, how about you? In all likelihood, the "hurdles" would start with all the music licensing that would have to occur in order to present the show on DVD the same way it was originally broadcast. According to the EW story, that is precisely the way the people who were behind the production of The Wonder Years wants to see these episodes brought home. Us too, and we're sure we speak for most of you as well. It will be worth waiting a little bit longer (and even paying a little bit more, like with Freaks and Geeks) to get this the way it *should* be seen.

Fox, do us proud! Fans, stay tuned. We'll let you know of any developments that occur as time goes by.

In the meantime, if you want a neat little Wonder Years "reunion" of sorts, check out the newly released DVD of the animated series Justice League Unlimited. One episode on this disc, "Hawk & Dove", features the voice of Fred Savage ("Kevin Arnold") as Hawk/Hank Hall, and the voice of Jason Hervey ("Wayne Arnold") as Dove/Don Hall! And, to completely cool things out on the Wonder Years front for this disc, a separate episode features the superhero team temporarily getting the help of the evil sorcerous Morgaine Le Fey in the story "Kid Stuff". Le Fey is voiced by none other than Olivia d'Abo (who played older sister "Karen Arnold"). Groovy!

Like many of you I have been waiting for a long time for a complete DVD collection of the Wonder Years. HOWEVER, the thought of even a single song being changed from the original episodes makes me sick to my stomach.

I have so many vivid memories of particular scenes, and the music that accompanies them, that I would not purchase a set of DVDs that had "substitute music."

Someone on the other thread mentioned that several episodes which aired on ABC Family channel had "substitute" songs -- was this extensive? How I wish I had recorded all the Nick at Night rebroadcasts in SP video mode. I have a lot of episodes saved, but they're all in EP and the quality is not great. I never taped any of the ABC Family broadcasts because I thought I noticed some severe edits throughout the episodes.

Let's keep each other posted on the DVD status...
Mark
