Welcome to the newly upgraded boards!

I know it's a very big change, and will take some time to get used to it. I think once you see all the new features and options, you'll wonder why we didn't upgrade much sooner.

There are bound to be bugs and issues with the boards, so in order to keep things organized - please post them in this thread.

You may have problems staying logging in. To solve this, try manually deleting any cookies from the sitcomsonline.com doman name and close your browser and restart it.

There is still some tweaking to do. The custom board headers and pictures/logos will need to be re-added over the next few days.

I welcome your feedback and suggestions. I have to give special thanks also to Seth and Pavan for their help with the upgrading.

Well, I do not have any bugs or issues to report, but I would like to say thanks to whoever was involved with the upgrade for, well, for taking the time to do the upgrade. Thanks!

Were the registration dates fixed? A few peoples' reg. dates here changed...

Chelsea

I'm really not sure WHAT caused it. It's possible a few dates that were after Midnight ET but before Midnight local time got shifted to their Eastern Time Date (Example: I got kicked from 01-13-01 to the 01-14-01)

from robyrob: it looks like the signatures are repeated on every post on the page, instead of just the first one.

Group Memberships is a leftover of an unused VB3 feature. It allows people to form their own "groups" within SO, have a group leader (The group leader essentially has mod controls over those in the group)...stuff like that.

Disabled Feature.

Nevermind...the problem seems to have largely fixed itself with the shrinking of the usernames (too much stuff in the left was causing extra space in the right)

Great job TJ, Pavanbadal and Seth. The boards look great. It will take a while to get used to them, but all is good.

Question though. I should be in invisible mode, yet I see my name on the list. Can anyone else see me on the list?

I like to be invisible. ;)

Stupid question alert: I'm having trouble backing up in a thread. If I read the last post in a thread, I don't see any page numbers down the bottom.

How do I go from page to page in a thread?

Immediately below the last page in a thread, there should be a box that has PAGE: 1, 2, 3, so on.

Example:
General

I checked and it's defaulted at those settings, but it's still an hour ahead on this board. It's 12:40 am where I live, but the boards have it an hour later.

Turn it off, I had to at another board, cause otherwise it was causing my time to be off by an hour like yours is. I don't know why that happens.

Another board I go too just upgraded to this type of board and they lost tons of threads and members names(members that registered in the last 3 weeks) we're lucky that didn't happen here.

If you'll notice, in the reply notification e-mail, it says:
There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.

After you get the initial e-mail, you won't receive *ANY* additional reply notifications until you visit the forum.

ok, maybe this is just a weird one-time glitch, and MAY be a result of firefox's ad-blocking, but when you report a post, it redirects you to:

http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/AdvSearch?sofindtype=13

I think that was because of the eBay search box at the bottom of the page, I saw it redirect to that page in IE without any ad blocker.

I removed it for now, resolved.

Do you have it set so that the boards accept cookies? If you log in manually (typing out your name and password) every time you come, you can set it in the User Options. That might explain why you can't stay on IM.

I don't type in my name and password. I'm just logged in when I come here. Now, I'm losing my settings without even closing out. This is weird. Where do I find cookies?

TJ

You shouldn't have to do that Janice, your settings are saved in the database - not by a cookie.

To clear cookies:

Go to your C folder - Documents and Settings - Owner - Cookies - and delete any reference to sitcomsonline.com - then close your browser and restart it again. Internet Explorer I assume?

Sounds like it could be spyware doing this, maybe Robyrob could tell you for sure.

With Firefox you can download an adblocker, just go to TOOLS, then extensions, then from there you'll see ADBLOCKER. Adblocker is great :)

which browser are you actually using Janice? is it AOL or Internet Explorer, and were you able to download and try firefox?

this doesn't sound like Spyware to me, it sounds like your browser is loading a cached version of the page or something...

we can test that by reloading your User Options (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/profile.php?do=editoptions) page by holding down the Ctrl key and pressing F5,

...then clearing your cache, in IE:
On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options. The Internet Options box should open to the General tab.

On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. This will delete all the files that are currently stored in your cache.

Click OK, and then click OK again.

for AOL:
On the AOL Toolbar, click Settings.
If you are signed on to AOL, click the By Category tab, then click Internet [Web] Options. If offline, click Internet Properties.
On the "General" tab in the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete Files. Select Delete all offline content to remove Web material you have saved for off-line review.
Click OK.
Click the AOL Browser tab.
Click Clear Storage.
Click Yes & OK

All I ever saw on the main page before the upgrade was a list of who was online at that moment, not a way to see when offline people were last online or what area of the site each person currently online was viewing. That's on the profile page now, visible to all users who click on the profile links. If going invisible will remove that information from my profile, I guess I'll have to do that. I just don't see why we can't still be listed on the main page as being online without having that other stuff show up in our profiles.

At first I thought these things were being displayed on all profiles but, yeah, I don't see the harm in the time and date of one's last activity being displayed if it only shows up on the profiles of those not in the invisible mode. is this just in text boxes? how are you trying to cut/copy/paste - can you highlight the text and right-click, copy/paste, or use Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, and Ctrl+V ? does it work in IE?

1. When I try the doing it in the text boxes I get the message. When I highlight text I don't have the option of selecting copy, cut, paste. I only get stuff like back, reload, bookmark this page, etc. I don't even try IE anymore, I only use Firefox.

2. I think I'm using the most recent version. The only extension I have is something I downloaded for the IGN boards. It's called the "IGNBQ," it's for allowing an IGN board user to use quick reply and stuff. It doesn't apply to SO.

if you type about:config into the address bar, and hit enter, it will show you your firefox configuration file. All of the settings that have been changed from the defaults are in bold - scan through them and see if any of those look like they might be related (some of those titles ARE kind of cryptic)

post any of them that look like they might be related ( anything related to the clipboard, context menus, text)

if there are any that could be causing the problem, you can right click on the setting and click on "reset" to return it to the default value, of course that may not BE the problem...

if you go to the Help, About Mozilla Firefox menu, it should tell you what versio you are using, you should be using 1.0.

You may want to update your Java to the most current version also.
https://addons.update.mozilla.org/plugins/ scroll down to Java and download it

Does it cost anything?

What do I look for? It's confusing. Like where do I find "clipboard" or something that might be related to it? it IS confusing, its not really meant to be read, but if you ONLY look at the bold items, look for any that mention "clipboard" or "context menu".

This is probably NOT the easiest place to start - If you HAVEN"T done much to customize firefox, you'd be better off saving your bookmarks then uninstall and reinstall it to see if it is a bad setting.

In your USERCP on the left you'll see track messages, click on that, and it will tell you if the message your tracking has been read or not. If that's what you mean :)

Not sure about the rest sorry :(

if you want to track a message that "Request Read Receipt" lets you know when someone reads your PM, and the tracking page lets you see all of your sent messages and when they were received.

I never use it, but I guess it would let you know if someone DIDN'T get your PM. *shrug*

I definetly prefer the old PM system. This one is harder to use and frankly, I could do without all that "Read Receipt" stuff. It's just annoying when it pops up.

And when you have as many PM's as me, scrolling WAY to the bottom of message tracking to find the unread ones is a real pain.

I haven't really had any problems with the upgraded boards.

I do tend to find the read reciept handy. :) Also, TJ, it will not let me open my folder that my read receipts are in. Any ideas on what might be wrong?

Thanks.

That was disabled by Todd. I think the message tracking is handy. Now the only way I know for sure if someone has read my PMs are if they reply to me and I don't want to end up sending a couple of PMs when it isn't necessary. Sometimes people read PMs but can't respond immediately.

I agree with both of you. I usually sent a request with each outgoing PM. How about you all?

I usually do. I sort of find the popup box annoying but I'd much rather have that than not knowing whether someone read my message. The only time I don't send a request is if I feel it isn't necessary. If I have a conversation with someone via PMs I'll request a receipt for the first one I send but when the person replies and we converse I don't send a request for each one after.

Is there any way to soften up the color of the lines that are running vertically and horizontally that divide the topics, poster's name, number of posts, etc? Here's an example from another board I go to.

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=73

They have a lighter shade of blue, so the topics and everything doesn't look so boxed in. That's the only thing I don't like about the new change - that everything looked really boxed in.

Make sure you're hitting the little button NEXT TO the quote button it started doing the same thing to me on a couple of different machines about 1-1/2 weeks ago. It worked fine for about 2-3 weeks after the upgrade, then it just changed - the "Quick Reply" box opens up (changes from grey to white, cursor becomes active) then the page reloads and "jumps" to the quote page before I can stop it.

I have NOT been able to figure out why; they have virtually the same setup as the rest of my pc's (updated firefox 1.0 with the same extensions/plugins installed) BUT they ARE Win98 machines instead of XP. It works fine in IE.

If I used those machines more often, I would've been more concerned about it - I'll try to reinstall firefox this weekend and see if the problem still exists. It might be important to find out what version of Java affected machines have installed as well.

my issue is the size of my avatar picture. It took me forever to upload my current one because for some reason that's the biggest size it let me upload. And obviously that's a very small avatar pic! I kept resizing it and over and over again it just kept saying it was too big. Until I finally got an acceptable size for it, which really is not big at all! Why is it not letting me put a normal size like all the other avatar pics?

Avatar Filesize is currently set at a maximum of 25KB. If you want a larger image but a smaller filesize, you may want to use some degree of JPEG compression - talk to Roby for specific instructions.

the pic you have right now is only 60 x 52 pixels, but the file size is 23.17kb - which is just under the 25kb limit.

what this means is that you need to reduce the file size NOT the size of the image - I am not that familiar with Photoshop, but the idea should be pretty much the same,

when you are ready to save the file, go to the File -> Save for Web menu, it will show you your original file AND one at a reduced file size. Choose either GIF or JPG for the file type and play with the number of colors or the image quality(which is really a factor of the compression) to get the filesize (shown at the bottom of the window) below the 25kb limit.

I found a tutorial for it here (http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/save/saveweb.htm)

or if you still have problems, post your original pic and maybe someone can resize it for you.

i'm afraid I'm not much help on macs, but I would think that it should work on macs if it HAS the option there, maybe you need to make sure that you are saving it as a "web" file format - a GIF or JPEG?
