View Full Version : MTM Airs in Canada
SpunkiiMonkii7078 01-01-2005, 11:37 PM I was just flipping through things, and found out MTM airs in Canada! I'm a little confused because usually the USA and Canada are joined together for most things. If MTM is availible in Canada, then wouldn't it be in the US?
It is aired on TV Land Canada, which has me even more confused! The show is aired 3, 4, or even 5 times a day! The website is www.tvlandcanada.com
MTM Season One was released in Canada, and it's the same thing as the one released here. They haven't released any other seasons there yet either, as here.
So why is MTM availible here and not there? I am so confused. Whether it's because I'm tired or not, I don't know. I have been drinking my coffee tonight sooo.... LOL
Somebody please help me...I'm clueless!
Larry Surrell 01-02-2005, 12:41 PM I think TV Land Canada, which is only partially owned by Viacom, has to buy programming independent of its US cousin. The two channels are different and independently programmed. Obviously, TV Land Canada bought the rights to show MTM and TV Land USA did not. They never aired The Dick Van Dyke Show, the rights to show that series in Canada was bought by a competitor.
I've seen some episodes of MTM that were aired on TV Land Canada and they hack them up as badly as they did on TV Land USA. Having watched the original run on CBS, I couldn't stomach wathcing these heavily edited versions. We'll just have to keep hoping that seasons 2-7 DVDs will be released someday.

Larry Surrell 01-04-2005, 08:56 AM Thanks, Lolac. Same to you. BTW, I love your avatar. "I seeeeee you"
and
You're welcome, FuNkYdOrYgUrL07. That's an interesting name. Does it have a special meaning?
SpunkiiMonkii7078 01-04-2005, 09:55 PM Oh Thanks Larry! It sort of does have a special meaning LOL. FunkyDory is a song, and then I just added gurl at the end, and then 7 is my favorite number. That's the whole perspective of it there! It used to be my favorite song, but it's not any more sooo... LOL. Infact my friend's and my favorite song at the moment is 'Thriller', which everyone must know I hope. LOL. Thanks again for the help!

TMTMS is available on Broadcast TV here in Chicago, as well as W.O.W. Cable Basic, Comcast Digital Cable, and Direct TV Satellite.
Hopefully, you subscribe to at least one of those?

I don't think I do...LOL. I only have basic cable right now, and if my Mom is nice that might stay for an extra month. We'll then go down to the standard cable or whatever, where you get 25 channels. Right now we have 70 channels and that's a dream come true for me!!!! LOL.
My dad has just decided to leave us for good, so we're sort of on our own now money-wise and everything.
I wish, I wish I subscribed to those!!!!!! I'll have to save my money up to pay once a month LOL. I could really do that if I tried my hardest!!
Thanks for the help though! I sincerely appreciate it!!!!
Larry Surrell 01-07-2005, 02:42 PM There's a good discussion about the station in Chicago which airs TMTMS and other classic TV shows here:
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=127939
Their claims about being available on DirecTV are a bit misleading. Technically, they are carried by DirecTV (and most likely Dish Network too), but by law only residents of the Chicago DMA are allowed to subscribe.
Steve, have you watched any Mary episodes on this channel yet? If so, are they running them unedited?
FuNkYdOrYgUrL07,
Sorry to hear of your family's financial difficulties. Many of us have been through some tough times too. I hope things get better for you soon.
SawgrassSteve 01-07-2005, 07:05 PM Yes, I do watch them, but no, they don't appear to be unedited. I say "appear" because I can't say for certain since I never bought TMTMS Season 1 on dvd. I think they are showing the same eps as TV Land, though.
Fortunately, like TDVDS airings, they are running them in order.

SpunkiiMonkii7078 01-08-2005, 09:33 AM Ohhh I see, so I would have to live in Chicago anyways? Darn. I live in Erie, which is close to Chicago....sort of.
Thanks Larry.
