I hope we get little quick reply boxes that are at the bottom of threads.. like they have at www.fansofrealitytv.com TJ 01-01-2005, 02:17 PM Yeah they are running the same version that I will be. Quick Reply boxes New Private Message Layout Post Counts will return most likely Calendar Members List Optional WYSIWYG or standard editors for posts and Private Messages Preview Post Option Thread View Counts It should be faster overall since things like attachments are stored as a file system instead of a database. Everything (posts, members, private messages, etc.) will be imported over, it will probably look like a big change much like it was 3 years ago. vienna waits 01-01-2005, 02:19 PM AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :woohoo: Superstar 01-01-2005, 02:23 PM It sounds fantastic, I think it will rock:rock: -*Forever*- 01-01-2005, 02:31 PM So is it going to look like an Invision Free board? One thing, I hope that is changed so that I don't have to scroll back to the top of the page to get back to the board I was on, or to my user cp or whatnot, that's the only thing that bugs me. PZelda 01-01-2005, 05:13 PM I don't want post counts to return...I like them better gone that way. *Pleasant Tomorrow* 01-01-2005, 05:18 PM Originally posted by PZelda I don't want post counts to return...I like them better gone that way. PZelda 01-01-2005, 08:28 PM I like them gone...there needs to be options one can set in their profile if they want their post count displayed or not... I used to like having them displayed but I would much rather have them gone now. ;) Michael [hXc] 01-01-2005, 08:30 PM Originally posted by PZelda I like them gone...there needs to be options one can set in their profile if they want their post count displayed or not... I have my own message board under my new name from Proboards. This is something I would look forward to.:woohoo: Nice cool features and much, much more. Stay tuned. dawsongirl 01-02-2005, 02:59 AM Originally posted by PZelda I don't want post counts to return...I like them better gone that way. And you just know it'll cause problems sometime. Will we be able to have pictures in our signatures again or no? I liked when we used to be able to have pictures in them. Chelsea 01-02-2005, 09:26 AM Some Random Features; Messenger Icons: You can now send an instant message to a person over Yahoo Instant Messenger, MSN Instant Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, or ICQ just by clicking the corresponding icon under a users name. Currently, you have to go into someone's profile, look at their IM Handle, go into the messenger, and manually set up an IM for them. Profile Picture: In addition to avatars, you can also have a secondary picture for your profile. Streamlined Forum Options: The Forum Search, plus quick links to bring up various forum options (Edit Signature/Avatar/Profile/Options, Display New Posts, Open the Buddy List, View Private Messages, Who's Online, Your Profile, etc etc.) are now all available from a dropdown menu on each page. Easier Log Out: Currently, the only way to log out (unless you've set your login not to leave permanent cookies) is to click a small "Log Out" link on the main page. With the upgrade, Logging Out will be an option on EVERY Forum Page. Especially handy if you're on a shared computer. Brand New "Look" to the Forums: This is what *I've* been up to. In addition to the wave of new forum logos that have already sprung up in the last month (Check TV DVD, Reality, Trading Post, Britcoms, Spin-Offs, etc etc. for THOSE logos), there's going to be a NEW (And by new I *don't* mean a fresh coat of paint for the current logo ...I mean BRAND NEW...Yes, it'll still look SIMILAR, but...eh, you'll see. The current Chit Chat logo WILL be retained. The forums themselves will be changing color somewhat, more medium blues replacing the sky blue that the forums have been using for eons. Oh, and for those who didn't know, the current "Post New Topic" and "Post Reply" buttons are the same ones the boards have been using since the old UBB days...Those are changing too. Mouseover Info: When you roll your mouse over a thread title, you'll now see a small tooltip appear containing the opening parts of a thread - to give you an idea of what the thread is actually about. This way, if you see an interesting thread, but then you see that there's actually nothing good IN the thread, you can just ignore the thread. There is actually a feature that already exists in the current software that I just noticed for the first time in the new software...If you click the number of replies (EG: In the Listing for Brent's "It's that Time Again" thread, if you click the 6 in the column next to the username, You can actually see everyone that's posted in the thread, and how many times they HAVE posted in the thread. Another change is the increase in fonts available for posts. Currently, Arial, Courier, Times, and Century are available. With the new software: Arial, Arial Black, Arial Narrow, Book Antiqua, Century Gothic , Comic Sans, Courier New, Fixedsys, Franklin Gothic Medium, Garamond, Georgia, Impact, Lucida Console, Lucida Sans Unicode, Microsoft Sans Serif, Palatino Linotype, System, Tahoma, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS, and Verdana will be available to choose (Please note: That's the font selection currently available, I'm probably not responsible for deletions...but if there are additions, I'll gladly take credit :p). It's also going to be simply the matter of one click to left-align, center-align, or right-align any text you want. And THAT'S just with the BASIC Editor. Also included is a *full* WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) editor for posts. Posting in WYSIWYG mode essnetially is like using Microsoft Word/Equivalent Product. You simply choose your options, and start creating your post. No more Javascript Popup boxes saying "Enter Text to be Formatted". No worrying about vB codes with broken tags. There's more, but I've already shattered my record for longest post ever, and besides, if I blab everything, what's left to discover? Chelsea 01-02-2005, 09:38 AM Part Deux: Thread View Options: Currently, the only way to view a thread is in linear mode...With the coming upgrade comes threaded mode (and a hybrid mode combining the best of both). Threaded mode simply means that you view the entire thread as a sort of tree. For example Post 1 -->Post 2 ------Post 5 -->Post 3 -->Post 4 -----Post 5 ----------Post 9 -----Post 6 -----Post 7 --------Post 8 You then select each post individually from the tree, and view it by itself. You simply work your way down particular branches of the tree, posting a reply to THAT particular post when you see what you want to respond to. A benefit is that if you see, in the tree, that a poster you don't particularly care for (IE: Me) has posted, you can completely bypass them. Hybrid mode is similar, but when you select a post, you view the entire branch that follows it too. Example using the above: You choose to view post 4, and you click it. Post 4 comes up, but Posts 5 and 9 are also displayed following it. -- Multiple-Recipient Private Messages: By simply inserting a ; after each username, you can now send a private message to up to 5 seperate users at once. Currently, you can only send new PMs to one user at a time, and in order to forward PMs to more than one person at a time, they HAD to be on your buddy list. --- G-Force Glockstar 01-02-2005, 10:08 AM What will happen when we get emails from replys? When this link changed a while ago, it wouldn't let me see any of the replys. Chelsea 01-02-2005, 10:15 AM E-Mail Notification Options Default is Off There's Also Instant Notification, as there is now....When someone, besides yourself, replies to a thread in which you've set notification as on, you can get an e-mail saying that Person X has replied to Thread Y, yada yada yada. Another option is Daily Notification. Each day, you'll be notified of people that have responded to your thread. Similar to above, but restricted to one mass digest per day. Similar option also exists, but with a weekly setting (Same as above, but thread responses for the last WEEK) G-Force Glockstar 01-02-2005, 10:35 AM Will it be much different from how it is right now? |
